In what was intended to be a on camera interview early Saturday morning turned into something very different.

When I arrived downtown, I discovered that the memory card for our camera was not working, but decided to go with an off camera interview.

The off camera interview that started at 8:30, ended up being a 3 hour conversation covering many topics (that really felt more like just having coffee with a friend). That I walked away from with a very good feeling about.

Richard really seems the grasp the common sense issue's facing Brantford, in a way that I have not heard from any other candidates as of this point.

The first topic I asked about was water fluoridation. Richard was very aware of the risks involved with the addition of fluoride to the public water supply. And fully agreed that the public should have a choice in the matter.
After seeing the lack of knowledge that many other city employee's had about fluoride, Richards knowledge was a breath of fresh air.

When asked about the effects of NAFTA and the coming North American Union on Brantfords economy, His response was that it is very obvious. When you look at our manufacturing industry. We have lost countless jobs, and business's in that Field.
Another point that Richard brought up about our local economy is the excess of temporary employment agencies.

In a city of 91,000 people there is over 150 temp agencies that employ nearly 40,000 people. These agencies do not give benefits, and rarely pay more then minimum wage. How can we expect the working class families to survive on this Richard asks.

In Richards opinion there has to be incentives for companies that come to Brantford, to hire people rather then using these types of agencies.

On the issue of the Native Land claims Richard believes that the city can no longer write up a plan, present it to the Native people, and wonder why they find problems in it. We need to include all sides in the planning. Which to me just sounds like common sense once again!

What impressed me the most with Richard is the fact that he does not accept any corporate sponsorships. It is his belief that if we want a change in our community, it does not make any sense to keep trying the same things over and over again and expect different results.

Richard is a great candidate for the mayor of Brantford, and I will look forward to hearing more from him.

Leading Dental Researcher Speaks out Against Water Fluoridation

Dr Hardy Limeback, former President of the Canadian Association of Dental Research and current Head of Preventive Dentistry at the University of Toronto, is now calling for the end of water fluoridation. Limeback, a former proponent of fluoridation changed his mind in the wake of new studies showing little benefit to teeth from ingesting fluoride, and a growing body of research indicating links between fluoride and adverse effects including hip fracture, cancer and arthritis.

Fluoride avoidance reduced anemia in pregnant women, and decreased preterm births, according to a new study.

Anemia in pregnancy can lead to maternal and infant mortality; it continues to be a problem despite nutritional counseling and maternal iron and folic acid supplementation.

Medical News Today reports:

“Anemic pregnant women living in India, whose urine contained 1 mg/L fluoride or more, were separated into two groups. The experimental group avoided fluoride in water, food and other sources ...

Results reveal that anemia was reduced and pre-term and low-birth-weight babies were considerably fewer in the fluoride-avoidance group.”

Many people are confused about fluoride and they believe that since it is “naturally” found in some water supplies it should be healthy and necessary for optimal human health.

While the logic is sound, it just isn’t true for fluoride. It is a poison when added to the water supply as most U.S. cities do, and it is a poison when occurring naturally as this study demonstrates.

This study was conducted in India, which is one of several countries known to have dangerously high levels of fluoride in their drinking water. This poison comes into contact with water supplies naturally when rocks containing fluoride erode or volcanic activity spews fluoride-containing ash into the air, allowing the colorless, odorless substance to enter groundwater.

In areas where naturally occurring fluoride is high, serious health problems usually become apparent, and that is, unfortunately, what's happening now in India where children are suffering vision loss and bone deformities due to high fluoride exposure.

This study, however, has major implications not only for people in India but for those all over the world who are exposed to fluoride. In the United States, for instance, fluoride is intentionally added to water supplies, putting unborn children at risk.

Fluoride Poses Serious Risks for Pregnant Women and Their Unborn Children

In this latest study, when anemic pregnant women avoided fluoride in their water, food and other sources, their anemia was reduced and premature and low-birth-weight babies were significantly less likely compared to pregnant women exposed to fluoride.

Anemia is a serious complication during pregnancy that can lead to both maternal and infant death, and it appears that fluoride may play a direct role in causing this dangerous condition.

Specifically, fluoride may damage the gastrointestinal mucosa, leading to impaired nutrient absorption and related illnesses like anemia. It has also been linked to:

* Decreased red blood cells
* Reduced blood folic acid activity
* Inhibitions in vitamin B12 production
* Non-absorption of nutrients for hemoglobin synthesis

When the pregnant women avoided fluoride, however, their intestinal lining regenerated, leading to enhanced nutrient absorption and reduced anemia, along with a decreased risk of pre-term birth and improved birth weights for their babies.

In the United States, a similar connection has also been made. Researchers from the State University of New York reported that premature births were more common in communities with fluoridated drinking water than those with non-fluoridated water.

More Reasons Why You Don’t Want to “Fluoridate” Your Baby

Fluoride is a drug. You can't get fluoride without a prescription, yet, if you live in the United States it's being added to your water supply on a mandatory basis at various levels that may or may not be safe for various individuals, especially children, pregnant women, the sick, and the elderly.

Approximately 50 percent of the fluoride that you ingest each day ends up accumulating in your bones over a lifetime. So you're steadily increasing the fluoride levels in your bones over time, which has been linked to arthritis-like symptoms such as joint pains and osteoporosis.

Fluoride also lowers thyroid function. It was used in medicine during the 1930s through 1950s in Europe to treat patients with overactive thyroid glands. This is a very real and significant concern, especially today as millions of people suffer with low thyroid function.

Fluoride in the United States is a Toxic Pollutant

Ninety percent of the chemicals used in fluoridation in the United States do not occur naturally.

Dr. William Hirzy from the EPA has pointed out that if it goes into the air, it's a pollutant. If it goes into the local water, it's pollution. But if the public water utilities buy it and pour it in your drinking water, it's no longer a pollutant. All of a sudden like magic it's a beneficial public health measure (even though fluoride has no benefits whatsoever when ingested).

But even the American Dental Association (ADA), which for many years was one of fluoride's biggest advocates, changed its tune a few years back and warned that parents of infants younger than a year old "should consider using water that has no or low levels of fluoride" when mixing baby formula.

The ADA was concerned about fluorosis, a condition caused by too much fluoride that damages the enamel of teeth and has been linked to more serious developmental problems. Studies have associated fluorosis with lower IQ, endocrine system problems, and skeletal damage.

How to Get Fluoride Out of Your Drinking Water

Sadly, for many people in India and other developing countries there is no access to safer water supplies or reverse osmosis filters that could remove the naturally occurring fluoride from the water, and now generations of children are growing up with serious health problems as a result.

There, the solution lies in securing safer water supplies or filters to remove the naturally occurring poison.

In the United States, there needs to be more pressure to prompt the government to stop adding this poison to municipal water supplies intentionally. The Fluoride Action Network has created a statement calling for an end to fluoridation worldwide that has now been signed by over 3,000 professionals.

We encourage all medical and science professionals to sign this statement.

In the United States, we're likely not going to be able to pass a federal law against fluoridation. There is not going to be a Presidential mandate or even a statewide elimination. This change will occur one community at a time.

So stay tuned, as we will be working to devise a complete game plan to tackle this issue head on. Once we reach the tipping point, which may be as little as 5 percent of the population, we will be able to reverse the policies of water fluoridation.

Until then, you can remove about 80% of the fluoride from your drinking water using a reverse osmosis (RO) filter. It is really hard to remove all of it with virtually any commercial filter. If you are concerned about fluoride the BEST solution is to help the Fluoride Action Network in their campaign to remove it from the water supply.

Keep in mind, too, that water is not the only source of added fluoride.

Although you may not know it, you are exposed to fluoride from many sources other than the obvious lineup of toothpastes and mouth rinses (which I recommend using fluoride-free versions of as well).

Far less obvious sources of fluoride, which I highly recommend avoiding, include:

* Food and beverages processed with fluoridated water
* Mechanically de-boned meat
* Pesticide residue on food
* Pharmaceutical drugs, especially SSRI antidepressants and fluoroquinolone antibiotics like Cipro
* Soy baby formulas
* Instant tea

Two Excellent Fluoride Resources

Professor Paul Connett has informed us that on September 17 he and several other scientists and concerned citizens from the UK, Ireland, Austria and the United States testified before a hearing on water fluoridation organized by the EU’s Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER) in Brussels.

Connett and others raised many concerns about fluoride’s ability to damage your teeth, bone, brain and your endocrine system. They also stressed that there is little solid scientific evidence that ingesting fluoride actually reduces tooth decay.

Professor Connett left the committee a manuscript copy of the book he has co-authored on fluoridation that will be available in October from publisher Chelsea Green, VT, titled “The Case Against Fluoride: How Hazardous Waste Ended Up in Our Drinking Water and the Bad Science and Powerful Politics That Keep it There.” Advanced orders for the book can be placed at Amazon.com.

While you are waiting for this book to reach the shelves, Professor Connett urges people to get their own personal copy of the DVD “Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation.”

If you have yet to watch this DVD it is a wonderful 30-minute introduction to the issue from 15 highly qualified experts, including a Nobel Prize winner in Medicine, and three members of the important National Research Council panel that published a landmark review of the toxicology of fluoride in water in 2006.

The Health Bank

Now that we are heading into the fall and winter months, it is so much more important for people to be eating properly and getting enough Vitamin C & D.

For low income families and the homeless this is not an easy task. They can receive help from various food banks, but about 95% of the food they recieve is processed and frozen. With very low nutritional value.

We want to change that with the Health Bank!

Our Goal is to provide highly nutritional raw foods to these people in need as well as providing vitamins to them. In the colder months nutrition and proper vitamin levels can be just as vital as a winter coat, and a warm place to stay.

Once a week we will go to the local food banks with as much as we can and hand it out to the people. But to be effective we need your help.

Think of the difference that one bottle of chewable vitamin D can make for children in a lower income family. Or the difference that a bunch of banana's and a bag of oranges could make.

Problems in the race for Mayor?

I want to start off by saying that I don't support any of the candidates as of this point. In the process of doing some research on all of the candidates for the mayor Brantford, I have come across some startling information.

This information is about one candidate, Chris Friel. I will start in the beginning.
I added Chris on Facebook last spring. We were able to have some good conversations about Freemason and other secret societies symbolism in our city. When he announced that he would be running for mayor, I noticed that he is employeed by a large pharmaceutical company named ACIC Fine Chemicals / Methapharm. There website can be found here: ACIC.

So me being me, I made a comment about that. The response I received from Chris, was that he was very upset that I would bring that up and that I knew nothing about it. I asked him to clarify it for me through email or with an in person interview. I have still not received a response to that. Then a friend of mine Tim Moorly (who has had extensive issue's with big pharma) started to make comments about his company. Chris then sent me an email accusing Tim and myself of harassment.

I decided to back off until I had done some more research.

Fast forward to September, I was given a conversation between a friend and Chris.
In this conversation Chris is very elusive and tries several times to change the topic. What bothered me the most is how quickly he label it all conspiracy theory, that is was a federal matter and not a mayor's, and to see what the other candidates think about it.

There are so many important issues that need to be addressed -- affordable housing, poverty issues, better paying jobs, the waterfront, building relationships. This is what a Mayor should spend time on. Feel free to investigate the other candidates and see if anyone is interested in your causes.

After seeing how he seemingly has no concern about the toughts and issue's of many people in our city, I started my research back up.

Very quickly I found a large problem. According to his Facebook fan page his employeer as I said before is ACIC Fine Chemicals / Methapharm. It also gives his position with the company. Director of Corporate Development, and the job description is: Oversee Human Resources, Corporate Strategy, Facility and IT Services.

OK big deal right? Now look at his economic platform from his site: friel.ca/platform/.

Economically Diverse
Brantford must reinvent its economy to reflect the changes in our society. We need to diversify our economy and focus on higher paying jobs that people can use to buy a house and raise a family.
Brantford will:
•Look to new economic sectors like green technology and the pharmaceutical industry;
•Tie our post-secondary initiatives to the new economy and seek new relationships and benefits for the future;
•Eliminate existing barriers and forge new relationships with the County of Brant and Six Nations, so that we all benefit from economic growth and prosperity.

So lets get this straight.. A Director of Corporate Development from a Big Pharma company wants to become mayor (for a second time) and expand the green technology and the pharmaceutical industry. He also does not like anyone to ask about it, or any other real issues.

Are we really going to just sit back and keep taking this corporate control of our community? This one campaign alone has a huge conflict of interest, and out right refusals to answer questions! He says that what is in our water and air is a federal matter? Oh yeah and don't forget the North American Union. Even though it has been covered on countless main stream media outlets, and Brantford is already feeling the heavy effects of NAFTA (the ground work for the NAU), its just crazy talk right? And has no impact on the poverty situation (you know people having jobs wouldn't have any effect at all would it).

But where is Brantford's main stream media on topics like this? Buried under corporate control of coarse.

It is time to say enough is enough!! Ask questions and demand answers!

A histoy of water fluoridation in Brantford

Brantford was the third city in the world to artificially fluoridate there public water supply. The test phase began in 1945.

According to the Brantford Expositor archives there is two articles posted about water fluoridation in 1945.

The first was on January 17th 1945, titled: "Fluorine Plans Are Advanced"
This article explains that the fluorine committee had been formed. With C. C. Cariss as the as the chairman, Dr. F. J. Wentworth as Vice chairman, and city clerk E. J. Campbell as secretary.

It then goes on to say that fluoride has very large dental benefits, as well as having a positive effect on hearing.

The second article was posted on September 26th 1945, titled: "Brantford Now Adding Fluorine to city water"
Here is the first section of the article.
"Pioneering in a new field of public health. The city of Brantford is the first municipality in Canada to add fluorine to the public water supply, as a means of improving the dental health of the community.

The public utilities commission disclosed today that fluorine has been added to the water for a period of three months, without any notification to the public, and there has been no public reaction. Not one complaint has been received of any "taste" or any difference since the fluorination project started last June."

It then goes on to say that the commission decided that fluorine had been given a fair trial without publicity, and it was now time to inform the public.

The fluorine project is a long range plan which will require a number of years to prove or disprove its value as an aid to dental health.

I looked for follow up studies about water fluoridation in Brantford or Brant county. I have been unable to find a single one. I spoke to several people in the public utilities commission, but none of them knew of any, and they did not even know when water fluoridation had started. There is no Brantford Expositor archives to any follow up testing either.

I also did extensive research into who the people on the fluorine committee where. Once again to my surprise there are next to no records of these people. I was able to come up with some marriage certificates but nothing past that. Although while I was researching these men, I came across a huge conflict of interest.

J. P. Ryan served as an alderman from 1932 - 1940, and as mayor from 1940 - 1945. He resigned within two months after water fluoridation became public. From 1932 until 1949 (the time of his death) he sat on the Brantford hospital and medical boards, as well as being the chairman of the Industrial board.

Thats right chairman of the Indutrial board (Source of the sodium fluoride) and the medical board (where they have promoted it as healthy for 65 years). How is that for a conflict of interest?

With this being the case, I decided to speak to our medical officer of health Dr. Lock. When he did not return my many phone calls, I went straight into his office to speak with him. He told me that fluoride is a natural occurring substance (which is a lie), and that he supports the practice of water fluoridation. For the poor people in the community that cannot afford toothpaste.

After that we went to city council and requested that a vote be held. So that the public could decide for themselves. This request was denied.

So lets get this straight.
Water fluoridation began in Brantford in the year 1945, with a requirement of further testing. No further testing has been done.
The people responsible for starting the project did so without any public input, and even though the CDC hails water fluoridation as one of the top 20 achievements of the 20th century. These people are not added to the history books.
The mayor at the time had a very large conflict of interest in the matter.
We have a head medical officer who is ignorant to the facts of fluoride, or has a reason to be lying about it. And also uses a bogus reason for supporting the practice.
We have a city council that will not allow the people of Brantford to vote on the issue.

This is why we need the people to stand up and demand justice! We Are Change Brantford has been working on our petition, under the Ontario fluoridation act a petition with 10% of the populations signatures can force a vote.

Harper government monitoring online chats about politics

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) - The Harper government has been monitoring political messages online, and even correcting what it considers misinformation. One local expert says the government is taking things too far.

Under the pilot program the Harper government paid a media company $75,000 to monitor and respond to online postings about the east coast seal hunt.

UBC Computer Science professor and President of the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association, Richard Rosenberg, says it seems unnecessary for the government to be going this far. "The government has a lot of power, that it feels the need to monitor public bulletin boards, or places where people express views and then to respond to that, seems to me going beyond a reasonable action the government should be taking."

Rosenberg says knowing that the government is monitoring certain topics online could result in people being more careful with their identities when they're posting about political issues on the internet.

He says it's the first time he's heard of this happening in Canada.

Computers that read minds are being developed by Intel

Unlike current brain-controlled computers, which require users to imagine making physical movements to control a cursor on a screen, the new technology will be capable of directly interpreting words as they are thought.

Intel's scientists are creating detailed maps of the activity in the brain for individual words which can then be matched against the brain activity of someone using the computer, allowing the machine to determine the word they are thinking.

Preliminary tests of the system have shown that the computer can work out words by looking at similar brain patterns and looking for key differences that suggest what the word might be.

Dean Pomerleau, a senior researcher at Intel Laboratories, said that currently, the devices required to get sufficient detail of brain activity were bulky, expensive magnetic resonance scanners, like those used in hospitals.

But he said work was under way to produce smaller pieces of equipment that can be worn as headsets and that can produce the same level of detail.

He said: "The computer uses a form of 20 questions to narrow down what the word is.

"So a noun with a physical property such as spade, which you dig with, produces activity in the motor cortex of the brain, as this is the area that controls physical movements.

"A food related word like apple, however, produces activity in those parts of the brain related to hunger. So the computer can infer attributes to each word being thought about and this lets the computer zero down on what the word is pretty quickly.

"We are currently mapping out the activity that an average brain produces when thinking about different words. It means you'll be able to write letters, open emails or do Google searches just by thinking".

Intel already have a working prototype that can detect words such as "screwdriver", "house" and "barn", by measuring around 20,000 points in the brain.

But as brain scanning technology becomes more sophisticated the computer's ability to distinguish thoughts will improve.

Justin Ratner, director of Intel Laboratories and the company's chief technology officer, said: "Mind reading is the ultimate user interface. There will be concerns about privacy with this sort of thing and we will have to overcome them.

"What is clear though is that humans are not restricted any more to just using keyboards and mice".

Flouride is considered a drug

Regarding Dr. Lynn Tomkins (President of the Ontario Dental Association), being appalled at my audacity to question the safety of fluoridation:

Dr. Tomkins quotes the Centre for Disease Control (U.S.) stating water fluoridation is one of the greatest medical accomplishments of the 20th century. This absurd statement was made back in the 1980s.

Since that statement, doctors in California and the U.S. Public Health Service, after 33 years of study, have gathered strong evidence that fluoride causes at least three types of cancer (liver, bone and thyroid).

The head of the department of preventative dentistry (University of Toronto) declared accumulated affects of fluoridation will be catastrophic. The Paediatric Society of Canada has also stated that giving fluoridated water to infants will irreversibly damage their teeth before they erupt.

Both the National Research Councils of Canada and the United States stated that fluoride is an endocrine disruptor (gender bender). Who are we going to believe?

The dental association maintains that this practice is perfectly safe; "Trust me I am your dentist." These people have stuffed patient's mouths with mercury for over one hundred years also saying (some still do) it is not harmful.

Thousands of lives have been ruined over the course of many years from mercury poisoning. Chewing food with mercury fillings releases 700 times the acceptable level of mercury as stated by the EPA (U.S.).

Now they are telling us this pollutant they admit is scrubbed from the chimneys of large phosphate fertilizer plants (not natural fluoride) hydrofluoric acid containing lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium and radium is safe for our babies, children and seniors to drink, and they have dumped this into our water supply since 1973. It should be known the residents in Alliston rejected this practice.

The World Health Organization has declared fluoride a drug, so to you Dr. Tomkins, do you feel you have the right to medicate all the people of Tottenham against the wishes of many?

Is your organization lobbying the provincial government to fluoridate all the communities in Ontario including Alliston, Beeton and Green Briar? They are, by the way.

Over 30 per cent of children in the U.S. and Canada have irreversible damage caused by this already. According to the ODA, this can only be caused by ingesting fluoride through a water source.

To quote Dr. Arvid Carlsson Nobel, "fluoridation is against all modern principles of pharmacology. It is obsolete. I don't think anybody, not even a single dentist, would bring up this question in Sweden anymore."

Flouridation may not do much for cavities

When it comes to fluoridating drinking water, Ontario and Quebec couldn't be further apart. Ontario has the country's highest rate of adding the tooth-enamel-strengthening chemical into municipal supplies, while Quebec has one of the lowest, with practically no one drinking fluoridated water.

But surprisingly, the two provinces have very little difference in tooth-decay rates, a finding that is likely to intensify the ongoing controversy over the practice of adding fluoride to water as a public health measure.

Quebeckers have more cavities than people in Ontario, but the difference is slight. Among children 6 to 19, considered the most decay-prone part of the population, the rate in Ontario was lower by less than half a cavity per child.

In the 6-11 age group, Ontario kids have 3.5 per cent fewer cavities than those in Quebec: 1.7 cavities compared to 1.76 in Quebec.

In the 12-19 age group, Ontario youths have 15.8 per cent fewer cavities than those in Quebec: 2.35 cavities compared to 2.79.

Details of the cavity rates in the two provinces have been compiled by Statistics Canada in a study it conducted recently into the health status of Canadians. Experts peered into the mouths of more than 5,000 Canadians from 2007 to 2009, tallying the number of cavities and teeth with filings, to try to get an idea of the state of oral health of the nation.

After a request from The Globe and Mail for a breakdown of the cavity rates by province, Statistics Canada tabulated the figures for Ontario and Quebec, where it said it had a sufficient number of people to be a representative sample.

Statscan said it couldn't compile meaningful data for British Columbia and Alberta, which are in a similar situation. British Columbia has practically no one drinking fluoridated water, while nearly three-quarters of Albertans rely on municipal supplies where the chemical is added.

The paper sought the information to see what light it would shed on the effectiveness of fluoridation, which has been touted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as one of the top 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century, and is endorsed by all dental associations in the country and by Health Canada.

But the results showed that if fluoridation is the only major difference between the two provinces, the chemical is preventing fewer than half a cavity per child in Ontario.

Health Canada down played the significance of the findings.

“While accurate,” the data on the children are “an incomplete picture of the tooth decay situation.... [and] cannot be used to form conclusions regarding the efficacy of fluoride use in water,” Health Canada said.

The federal department said firm conclusions can't be drawn from the Statscan survey because it didn't collect assessments on individual intakes of the chemical. To make a proper assessment, Health Canada said it would need detailed information on whether people in the two provinces differ in their intake fluoride supplements, drink tap water or bottled water, and use fluoridated toothpaste.

But fluoridation is one major and obvious difference between the provinces. More than three-quarters of Ontario residents live in areas where municipal water supplies contain the chemical. In Quebec, 94 per cent have water free of the additive, according to figures published by Health Canada in 2007.

Since then, Quebec City has voted to stop fluoridating, indicating that the difference between the two provinces is currently even more pronounced.

Some critics of fluoridation say the survey does raise questions about the practice.

“Fluoridation is no longer effective,” contends Hardy Limeback, head of the preventive dentistry program at the University of Toronto, who says adding the chemical to water is “more harmful than beneficial.”

Although fluoridation is touted as an unalloyed benefit by public health agencies, which estimate it cuts cavity rates by 20 per cent to 40 per cent, many community groups have sprung up across Canada lobbying to stop the practice, which is subject to repeal by local referendums. Some health professionals are worried fluoridation may have under-appreciated risks.

While fluoride toughens the outside of teeth to make them more resistant to bacteria-causing decay, a number of medical journal studies have linked exposure to altered thyroid function, and to reduced IQ levels in children, although the intellectual impairments were found at levels of the chemical in water well above those used for municipal supplies.

The most worrisome study, by Harvard researchers, appeared in 2006 in the journal Cancer Causes and Control and found that boys aged 7 exposed to high levels of fluoridated water were about four times more likely to develop childhood osteosarcoma. It's a rare bone cancer that felled Canadian icon Terry Fox and almost always leads to amputations.

There has also been a worldwide reduction in cavity rates, regardless of whether countries use the chemical, suggesting factors other than adding it to water supplies are at work.

One theory is that most people are already getting adequate exposure to fluoride through toothpastes, so the amounts in water aren't making much difference in tooth decay rates.

“The parallel reduction in caries [cavities] incidents in countries with a lot of fluoridation and countries with not much fluoridation is quite dramatic,” says Warren Bell, former head of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, a group that questions the practice.

Dr. Limeback said factors that might be preventing caries include increased exposure to vitamin D, better oral hygiene, less sugar consumption, and even antibiotics.

When fluoridation started 60 years ago, doctors thought swallowing the chemical was beneficial by strengthening teeth from the inside out. Dr. Limeback said more recent research shows that if there is a benefit, it is from the topical application of fluoride to the surface of teeth, which suggests that brushing with a toothpaste is more effective than drinking water containing the chemical.

Update in the shooting of a 18 year old in Brantford.

It has been confirmed that Evan Jones was holding a knife outside of his home when the Brantford police were confronting him.

But it is very questionable practice that after he went back inside the home, the police kicked the door in and chased after him. It is questionable because this was a teenager that was threatening to hurt himself. Not the police or anyone else.

You would think that the police would have some one try to speak with him and calm him down. Not barge into his home and start shooting.

Brantford Police shoot an 18 year old, is this a rare event?

On Wednesday August 25Th 2010, Brantford police responded to call about a man that was acting in a violent manner.

This man was 18 year old Evan Jones. Very little has been released about the incident, but here is what we know. At 9:51 p.m. Officers had an interaction with an 18-year-old male outside and then inside the residence. During these "interactions" four shots were fired. Evan was hit in the chest with one shot and pronounced dead at the scene. To my understanding at this point Evan was unarmed.

A neighbor of Evans was quoted: "They didn't need to shoot him. He was threatening to harm himself not the police."

The Brantford police shot and killed an unarmed 18 year old boy. But is this a rare event for the BFPD? Lets look at some of the newspaper articles over the last few years.

London police have charged a Brantford police officer, who lives in Woodstock and was already facing Police Act charges, with possession of child pornography.

Police said the man was arrested Monday and the investigation was launched after police received a complaint about child pornography on his computer.

A source said the officer lived in London at the time of the offence, but no other details were immediately available.

Timothy McPhee, 34 years, of Woodstock is charged with possession of child pornography.

A city police officer who pleaded guilty to cocaine possession this week shot at a stolen van in 2007, injuring a teen aged passenger.

Const. Jeffrey Servos, who admitted in Ontario Court on Monday that he had used cocaine while on duty in June 2007, shot off four rounds into a van that was boxed in by police cruisers on May 27, 2007.

Two of the shots went through the van's windshield and one of them hit a 15-year-old who was a passenger in the van. The girl was treated for a gunshot wound to her left arm.

Servos testified that he feared for himself and another officer when he shot at the vehicle.

The shooting took place just over a day after police received a tip that an officer named Jeff was buying painkiller pills. Servos had a two-year history of drug problems at that point.

These three stories are only a drop in the bucket. While out doing street actions, we get to speak with countless people in our community. They tell us the stories that dont make the headlines.

Without using names or specific details I will tell one of them.
While speaking with a woman about the state of our society, we began speaking about the police. She said her teenage daughter had gotten into a little bit of trouble and was on probation. One of the probation rules she was given was a 11pm curfew.

On a spring night around 10pm she was pulled over (just for walking down the street). The officers asked her what she was doing. The girl responded, walking home.
The officer rudely responded with "are you sure that you are not out here sucking dick?"

The 2 police officers then placed the teenager in the back seat of the police cruiser without cause. The girl continually asked what is going on? The officers simply told her to shut up.

After an hour of this treatment, the officer looked back at her and said its past 11pm, and you are in breach of your probation.

After telling her that she was going to be charged for this, they called her mother.

After all of this the mother and daughter fought hard enough to have any charges dropped. But this story really shows the mentality of some of the police officers in our community.

Or how about the infamous story of Jacob Less? The video can explain what happened to him much better then I could.

These kind of stories about police corruption are pouring in from all over Canada, and the rest of the world. We as a people in the Brantford community need to start standing up for ourselves. No one else is going to do it for us.

We need to make sure that the people that are hired to protect and serve our community, do so. Not the opposite.

Not all of the police officers are corrupt. There are many of them that are great peace officers and I have a great deal of respect for them. But when faced by this corruption they stand down. And to these officers I would like to say this.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
If you stand aside and let evil run wild on our streets, you might as well take part in it because you are just as guilty as the corrupt!

We need you good officers now more then ever! Please stand up and take a stand with the people in our community.

Software Predicts Criminal Behavior

New crime prediction software being rolled out in the nation's capital should reduce not only the murder rate, but the rate of many other crimes as well.
Software Predicts Criminal Behavior
A computer program is helping law enforcement determine who is most likely to commit crime.

Developed by Richard Berk, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, the software is already used in Baltimore and Philadelphia to predict which individuals on probation or parole are most likely to murder and to be murdered.

In his latest version, the one being implemented in D.C., Berk goes even further, identifying the individuals most likely to commit crimes other than murder.

If the software proves successful, it could influence sentencing recommendations and bail amounts.

"When a person goes on probation or parole they are supervised by an officer. The question that officer has to answer is 'what level of supervision do you provide?'" said Berk.

It used to be that parole officers used the person's criminal record, and their good judgment, to determine that level.

"This research replaces those seat-of-the-pants calculations," he said.

Technology Helps Determine Level of Supervision Needed for People on Probation or Parole

Murders, despite their frequent appearance on cop dramas and the evening news, are rare crimes. On average there is one murder for every 100,000 people. Even among high-risk groups the murder rate is one in 100. Trying to predict such a rare event is very difficult, so difficult that many researchers deemed it impossible.

"It's like trying to find the needle in the haystack," said Berk.

New advances in computer technology, however, can sift through that haystack more quickly and more accurately than ever.

Beginning several years ago, the researchers assembled a dataset of more than 60,000 various crimes, including homicides. Using an algorithm they developed, they found a subset of people much more likely to commit homicide when paroled or probated. Instead of finding one murderer in 100, the UPenn researchers could identify eight future murderers out of 100.

Berk's software examines roughly two dozen variables, from criminal record to geographic location. The type of crime, and more importantly, the age at which that crime was committed, were two of the most predictive variables.

Technology Doesn't Predict Future Crimes

"People assume that if someone murdered then they will murder in the future," said Berk. "But what really matters is what that person did as a young individual. If they committed armed robbery at age 14 that's a good predictor. If they committed the same crime at age 30, that doesn't predict very much."

Baltimore and Philadelphia are already using Berk's software to help determine how much supervision parolees should have. Washington, D.C. is now set to use the algorithm to help determine lesser crimes as well. If those tests go well, Berk says the program could help set bail amounts and suggest sentencing recommendations.

Predicting future crimes does sound, well, futuristic, said Berk. Even his students at the University of Pennsylvania compare his research to the Tom Cruise movie "Minority Report."

Nevertheless, he said, "We aren't anywhere near being able to do that."

Scientifically, Berk's results are "very impressive," said Shawn Bushway, a professor of criminal justice at the State University of New York at Albany who is familiar with Berk's research.

Predicting rare events like murder, even among high-risk individuals, is extremely difficult, said Bushway, and Berk is doing a better job of it than anyone else.

But Berk's scientific answer leaves policymakers with difficult questions, said Bushway. By labeling one group of people as high risk, and monitoring them with increased vigilance, there should be fewer murders, which the potential victims should be happy about.

It also means that those high-risk individuals will be monitored more aggressively. For inmate rights advocates, that is tantamount to harassment, "punishing people who, most likely, will not commit a crime in the future," said Bushway.

"It comes down to a question of whether you would rather make these errors or those errors," said Bushway.

Retired FBI Agent Says Oswald Didn't Kill Kennedy

AKRON, Ohio - A retired FBI Agent from Summit County is making claims regarding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy that go beyond conspiracy theories.

Don Adams speaks clearly and concisely when describing the events of November 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was killed, and he doesn't waiver from his position that Lee Harvey Oswald did not kill President John F. Kennedy in Dallas.

"It is a fact," says Adams, and he says he has the FBI documents to prove it.

At his home in Akron, Ohio, Adams is surrounded by thousands of reports and records from the National Archives and Records Administration. His name appears on many of the papers, but he says other reports have been doctored, or are missing, "Everything I had done is gone. It's all gone," Adams said.

The Army veteran joined the FBI after serving in the Korean war. He trained in Washington, D.C., and Quantico, Virginia, and was assigned to an FBI field office in Thomasville, Georgia.

One of Adams first assignments was investigating an extreme right radical, with connections to the States Rights Party and KKK named Joseph Adams Milteer. "He was reportedly one of most violent men in the country," said Adams.

One week after completing the investigation, President Kennedy was gunned down in Dallas.

Agent Adams located Milteer in Quintan, Georgia on November 27, 1963, but according to Adams, the Senior Agent in charge would not allow a proper interrogation.

"I said, 'Boss wait a minute, we have an opportunity to elicit tremendous information from him' and he replied '5 questions and nothing more'."

Years later, while searching the archives Adams learned that Milteer had threatened to kill President Kennedy November 9, 1963, just weeks before the assassination, and that FBI agents had allegedly lied about his whereabouts immediately following threat.

In a tape recording Adams played for Fox 8 News, Milteer tells an informant the best way to get the president, "is from an office building with a high powered rifle."

The informant asks if they are really going to kill President Kennedy and on the tape recording Milteer responds, "Oh yes. It's in the works."

Adams wonders why the FBI and Secret Service permitted the President to travel to Dallas with that knowledge.

"[They] should have stopped the President from traveling instantly." said Adams.

And an FBI record states that after the assassination, "a jubilant" Milteer bragged to the informant, "You thought I was kidding when I said he would be killed from a window with a high powered rifle."

Adams questions why Milteer appears in a photograph near President Kennedy's limousine before the shooting, but was never mentioned in the Warren Commission Report.

Adams suspects Milteer was definitely involved in President Kennedy's death, but he says Oswald absolutely was not.

In 1964 Adams was transferred to Dallas, Texas. He watched the now famous Zapruder film and chased leads connected to Kennedy's death.

The Warren Commission report said three bullets were fired from behind the president, but Adams claims there were clearly 11 shots fired, including a frontal shot that struck President Kennedy's neck.

Adams claims that he mentioned his findings to Senior FBI Agents, and was told by one unnamed agent, "Don be careful what you say and how you say it."

Adams says witnesses at the Book Depository saw Oswald in the break room drinking a Coke at the exact time of the shooting.

According to Adams, even if Oswald was on the building's sixth floor, Adams informed Senior FBI Agents that Oswald could not have possibly fired three shots in seven-and-a-half seconds, from a bolt action rifle so precisely while looking through a scope. Adams alleges he was again warned to keep quiet.

"I said, 'I'm gonna tell you right now guys, no way in the world he fire those shots' and boy I was really cautioned then." said Adams.

Adams has hundreds of other facts and papers that he says prove the Warren Commission's report was erronious.

The 80-year-old is currently putting the papers into a book and he has also produced a documentary style DVD, which is being sold on his website.

Adams says he is not seeking fame and fortune, rather truth and justice. He wants another commission established to re-investigate what really happened in Dallas before all of the agents and witnesses are gone.

"When we die off, no one will talk about these things." said Adams, "I hope the truth gets told whatever it is."

Here is my take on why that is.
We are seeing a very large divide and conquer program being rolled out. And one of the oldest tools for this is being used. Religion. I have seen countless people who I had believed to be "awake" to these kind of programs falling into the propaganda.
I have seen comments from them like, "I am not being racist towards Muslims, I am just not going to be quiet anymore (in regards to the ground zero mosque)".

This seems to get worse everyday that passes. Here is a perfect example.

If the media ran with the stories that would unite us (like Bill C-36, S510, or the big brother actions online and offline), this would cause huge problems for the globalists.

We need to get out there and remind the people of this as much as we can!

Two Films That Blew Bilderberg Wide Open

Castro’s decision to put the spotlight on Bilderberg, knowing that the international media would take the bait, produced a familiar outcome, with the corporate press repeating Bilderberg’s talking point that it represents nothing more than a casual get-together and has no power to set policy.

In reality, as we reported in June, Bilderberg attendees are mandated to implement decisions that are formulated during the annual conference of power brokers. As Willy Claes, former Secretary General of NATO revealed during a Belgian radio interview, members are required by Bilderberg to set the agreed upon policy within the environments they have influence over. Terry and Casey of WAC Brantford were honored to open for Dr. Paul Connett, on June 18 2010. At a town hall meeting in Brantford Ontario.
Dr. Connett is the director of the fluoride action network, and a retired (after 25 years) chemistry professor at the university of Canton New York.

Every city councilor was invited, as well as the employees of the Brant county health unit. Not one city councilor came, or no one from the health unit.

We have been working very hard to have fluoride removed from our water supply. We have spoken at city council, were honoured to have Dr. Paul Connett do a town hall meeting, and are still to this day working on the petition.

Infowars.com has started a campaign called "there is posion in the tap water". We would like to take part in this campaign, but rather then using normal sized signs. Our idea is to have a billboard in our city. That would look something like this:

Why the fluoridation of public water supplies is illegal

Municipalities all across America are currently dripping fluoride chemicals into their public water supply, dosing over a hundred million Americans with a chemical that they claim "prevents cavities."

What's interesting here is that this biological effect of "preventing cavities" is a medical claim, according to the FDA. And as such, making this claim instantly and automatically transforms fluoride into a "drug" under currently FDA regulations.

This means that cities and towns all across America are now practicing medicine without a license by dripping liquid medication into the public water supply without the consent of those who are swallowing the medication.

If you or I did this, we would be arrested and tried as either terrorists (because contaminating the water supply is an act of terrorism) or felons practicing medicine without a license. So what allows cities and towns to get away with these very same crimes?

Cities openly violate state and federal law
Keep in mind that a medication can only be legally prescribed to someone after they have been diagnosed with a medical need. In other words, a doctor can't legally prescribe you some pharmaceutical unless he examines you and determines you actually need it. But fluoride is medicating everyone whether they need it or not, without any medical diagnosis whatsoever.

And that means those children or adults who already have high exposure to fluoride (from swallowing toothpaste or drinking fluoridated bottled water, for example) may now be exposed to too much fluoride from the added amounts in the tap water. Excess fluoride can cause serious health problems such as bone fractures and dark spots appearing on your teeth (dental fluorosis).

This does not appear to concern the proponents of fluoride -- people who believe they alone have the right to practice mass medicine without a license by dripping an unapproved drug chemical into the public water supply without the knowledge or consent of those who are being medicated by that chemical.

Every city and town in America currently engaged in fluoridation of the water supply is committing felony crimes. Town leaders who approve of water fluoridation are criminals operating in clear violation of FDA regulations, state medical laws and federal laws.

How to fight back
If you happen to see one of these town leaders at a town meeting, make a citizens' arrest and put them in handcuffs, then turn them over to the local sheriff.

You may also wish to write a strong letter to your state medical board and complain that your city or town officials are "practicing medicine without a license" by dosing your city residents with an unapproved drug.

If they insist fluoride is not a drug, tell them to read the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). (http://www.fda.gov/regulatoryinform...)

There, you will find that the Act states:

The term "drug" means... articles (other than food) intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals.

Now, I don't personally agree with this definition of a "drug" but this is what the FDA claims it to be, and it clearly states that any item intended to "affect the structure" of the body is a drug.

Fluoride is intended to affect the structure of the teeth. That's the whole claimed purpose of dumping it into the water supply. Therefore, fluoride is a drug.

Furthermore, since it is a drug, it is ILLEGAL to dump it into the water supply, even if it were approved by the FDA to treat cavities (which it isn't).

Thus, every employee of every city or town that is currently dumping this chemical drug into the water supply is guilty of a felony crime and should be immediately arrested and prosecuted for contamination of the public water supplies as well as practicing medicine without a license.

Call your local police department and report these crimes. It's time to arrest these fluoro-terrorists who are illegally contaminating our public water supply with illegal drugs. Stop the fluoride madness.

Our economy on the rebound? Dont count on it!

Stephen Harper continues to say we are watching, and the global (never a word about the Canadian) economy is fragile. And that they are working very hard. But Mr. Harper and his cabinet never elaborate on what they are working on.

In the month of June our trade deficit widened to 1.1 billion, and Canada's merchandise exports fell 2.5 per cent. Then in July we lost 139,000 full time jobs.

In these same two months our government has spent 1.2 billion on the G20/G8 summits, announced the spending of 16 billion on 65 new fighter jets, and an estimated 9 billion on new jails.

The G20/G8 Summits did not help anything with our economy. The new fighter jets are being purchased in a time that Canadian soldiers are exiting from Afghanistan, and our country has no creditable threat from any nation or groups.

The plan for the new prisons is the biggest fiasco. Crime rates in Canada are down, but according to Stockwell Day, the new jails are for the unreported crimes...

In just those three examples, we are spending nearly 30 billion dollars on unnecessary and unjustified things, while our economy just keeps slipping further and further into the abyss.

We cannot forget the Canada Economic Action Plan though. I am going to use Brantford for an example on this.
In Brantford nearly 25% of our economy and jobs are in the manufacturing industry.

In the last few years our manufacturing base has lost a large number of jobs with the closures of factories like Patriot Forge, Dekka, and ITML just to name a few.

So what has been done by the action plan to help this. Well some of the projects include. Renovations to city housing, road repairs, Renovations to recreational facilities, and a new commercial hanger for the small airport that we have.

Can you make any sense of this?

I can. Our economy is going the way of every other nation that gets it's money supply from private banks. The Canadian Economic Action Plan is nothing more then a sad attempt to make it look like something is being done to fix the problem. When in reality it is only prolonging the inevitable, if not making it worse.

Our government is spending money on new military hardware, and on new prisons because they know this. They are expecting for things to get bad. Couple this with the national disasters in China and India right now, that could potentially cause major food shortages and this could be coming very soon.

There is no fix in sight other then abolishing the privately run money and credit system that we are under, but most of the people have become way to trained to accomplish this.

Think about it. Why would a government spend that kind of money on military hardware, and jails if they did not feel that they are going to be needed in the near future?

New superbug emerges in U.K., Asia

A new superbug that appears resistant to even the strongest of antibiotics has emerged in India and soon could spread worldwide, according to an article published Wednesday in The Lancet medical journal.

British scientists have discovered NDM-1, or New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase 1, in 180 people in India, Pakistan and the U.K. Of those, 37 were patients who had returned to the U.K. after recently undergoing surgery in India or Pakistan.

NDM-1 alters bacteria, allowing them to flourish even in the presence of nearly all known antibiotics. It has been seen largely in E. coli bacteria, the most common cause of urinary tract infections, and on DNA structures that can be easily copied and passed onto other types of bacteria. It can lead to fatal pneumonia and other infections.

NDM-1 cases discovered:

"The potential of NDM-1 to be a worldwide public health problem is great, and co-ordinated international surveillance is needed," the article reported.

"The spread of these multi-resistant bacteria merits very close monitoring," wrote Johann Pitout, of the division of microbiology at the University of Calgary, in an accompanying commentary.

Pitout called for international surveillance of the bacteria, particularly in countries that actively promote medical tourism. "The consequences will be serious if family doctors have to treat infections caused by these multi-resistant bacteria on a daily basis."
U.K. issues alert

The U.K. Health Protection Agency has issued an alert about the superbug, forcing doctors there to report all suspected cases.

"The threat comes from the fact that these bacteria are so resistant," said Dr. David Livermore, an agency spokesman and one of the authors of the report.

"Nowadays we have five or six good antibiotics that are active in more or less all infections," said Livermore, who specializes in infectious diseases. "Here we're down to one or two not-very-good, rather old antibiotics."

The researchers said the superbug appeared to be already circulating widely in India, where the health system is much less likely to identify its presence or have adequate antibiotics to treat patients.

Aside from the U.K., the resistant gene has also been detected in Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, the U.S. and Sweden. The researchers said that since many Americans and Europeans travel to India and Pakistan for elective procedures like cosmetic surgery, it was likely the superbug would spread worldwide.

$45M G20 class-action suit filed

A woman who says she was in a crowd detained by police for hours at a Toronto intersection during a G20 protest has launched a $45-million class-action lawsuit against the Toronto Police Services Board and the federal attorney general.

Sherry Good is acting as the representative plaintiff for more than 800 people who claim they were wrongfully arrested during the G20 summit in late June.

She is among about 500 people who were hemmed in by hundreds of riot police at the intersection of Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue for several hours in the rain on June 27.

Good, who called herself an "ordinary person" not involved in organizing any protests, claims to have suffered a panic attack following the incident.

"But the biggest consequence of that weekend is that I have lost my trust in the police," she told a Friday morning news conference.

"Now I am nervous when I see a police car. I consistently look over my shoulder. Sadly, it will take a long time to regain that trust."

The Toronto Police Services Board is a civilian organization that oversees the force. It is being sued because "it is the legal entity charged with overseeing the majority of the police activity that took place that weekend," said Eric Gillespie, one of the lawyers representing Good.

The Attorney General of Canada has been named because "it is the legal representative of the RCMP, who also had a significant role, it appears, in the events that transpired at that time," he said.

The suit was filed Thursday at Ontario Superior Court, but the bid to certify the legal action — meaning it would proceed — will likely take several months, Gillespie said.

Around 1,000 people were arrested during the summit, which ran June 26-27 in downtown Toronto.
'No comment' from police

Meanwhile, Toronto police held a news conference to release pictures of five more people they are looking for in connection with vandalism during the protests.

"My message here today has nothing to do with the class-action suit," Det. Mike Carbone said when asked about Good's lawsuit.

"I have no comment about the class-action suit."

Police also displayed previously released images of six other people identified as people they believe may have been involved in some of the vandalism.

The news conference is the third in which police have released pictures in hopes the public can help identify potential suspects. Since the first news conference last month, 17 people have been arrested.

The Stimulus package that Stephen Harper brought to Canada is now running out, and Canadians are now loosing jobs again. Maybe after a few more months of this will get some people to wake up to the fact that the Stimulus was just prolonging the inevitable. That relying on private banks that charge compound interest on our money, is a system designed to put us under control of the elite. The current economic system if unchanged will lead us to slavery!

And Remember this is why we cant have an election! Stephen Harper is quoting as saying "Canada cannot allow a break in its economic recovery plan with an unnecessary election."

WASHINGTON — House Republicans on Thursday blocked a Democratic plan to provide billions of dollars for medical treatment to rescue workers and residents of New York City who suffered illnesses from the toxic dust and debris at ground zero.

A majority of the lawmakers in the chamber supported the bill, but the 255-to-159 vote fell short of the two-thirds margin needed under special rules that were used to bring the measure to the floor. In the end, 243 Democrats and 12 Republicans supported the measure; 155 Republicans and 4 Democrats opposed it.

Democrats used rules requiring a wider majority for approval to prevent Republicans from offering amendments on the floor that would embarrass Democrats in an election year.

Republican opponents of the legislation expressed concern over the $7.4 billion cost of the program. But Democrats accused Republicans of being callous and vowed to bring the bill back for another vote in the fall.

Until now, the federal government has been appropriating money on an annual basis to monitor the health of people injured at ground zero and to provide them with medical treatment. But the bill’s supporters said there were problems with the year-to-year approach, including that money for the program was subject to the political whims of Congress and the White House.

The bill would have provided $3.2 billion over the next eight years to monitor and treat injuries stemming from exposure to toxic dust and debris at ground zero. New York City would have paid 10 percent of those health costs.

The bill also would have set aside $4.2 billion to reopen the Sept. 11 Victim Compensation Fund to provide compensation for any job and economic losses.

In addition, the bill contained a provision that would have allowed money from the Victim Compensation Fund to be paid out to anyone who receives payment under the pending settlement stemming from lawsuits that 10,000 rescue and cleanup workers filed against the city. At the moment, anyone who receives a settlement from the city could not receive compensation from the fund, according to the bill’s sponsors.

Representative Carolyn B. Maloney, a Democrat and one of the bill’s chief sponsors, expressed disappointment with the outcome, saying that it was a shame that many who opposed the measure “don’t understand the scope and severity of this health crisis.” But she expressed confidence that the House would pass the bill with a simple majority when Congress returned from its summer recess in September.

Representative Lamar Smith, a Republican from Texas, who opposed the bill, described it as an “irresponsible overreach” and asserted that it did not contain sufficient protections to prevent waste and fraud.

Representative Jerrold Nadler, another Democratic sponsor, called the rejection of the measure “heartless and unpatriotic.”

There are nearly 60,000 people enrolled in a variety of health-monitoring and treatment programs related to the 9/11 attacks, according to the sponsors of the bill. The federal government provides the bulk of the funding for those health programs.

Heading into the vote, Democrats acknowledged it would be difficult to gather enough support to pass the bill under special rules requiring a two-thirds majority.

But Democrats were concerned that a simple majority vote would allow Republicans to propose a controversial amendment that seeks to deny 9/11 health benefits to illegal immigrants. That amendment threatened to fracture Democratic support for the original bill into two camps: moderates who might feel political pressure to deprive illegal immigrants of such benefits and liberals who flatly oppose the Republican amendment.

Still, many supporters of the legislation outside of Congress expressed bitter disappointment that House leaders did not allow a simple majority vote on the bill. In a statement afterward, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg expressed outrage over the outcome and criticized both parties.

“It was wrong for the overwhelming majority of Republicans to vote against the bill,” he said, “and it was wrong for Democrats to bring the bill to the floor under rules that made passage so much more difficult.”

European Union to run Canada’s municipal water system?

I’m writing about the proposed Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, or CETA.

Recent news articles and reports that I’ve seen indicate this deal would offer few if any benefits to Canada. European companies would be the winners; at costs Canadians cannot afford.
Nothing that I’ve heard from government or business advocates has convinced me that this deal with Europe makes sense. Neither group have very much to say about where the real benefits are for Canadians. They merely say that free trade is good and everyone who disagrees is wrong. That is neither sound trade policy nor sound economic policy.
This week, the Toronto Star reported on a new legal opinion about CETA. The EU has insisted that drinking water services be included, opening the door for European multinationals to “stake” a claim in Canada’s municipal water systems. “The most serious threat to public ownership and control of water arises from the risk of private entities being able to establish a proprietary claim to the water itself,” the report says.

That legal opinion also says European negotiators are hoping to make it impossible for Canadian cities to buy or hire locally under any circumstance, even when doing so offers more economic or social benefits than picking the lowest cost bidder.
There are a lot of groups questioning this agreement, including farmers, workers, environmentalists, citizens groups and civic-minded think tanks like the Columbia Institute, which released the report on cities by Mr. Shrybman. We need open and honest debate on Canada’s trade policy before we are stuck with a new European deal that doesn’t make sense.
I encourage you to read through Mr. Shrybman’s legal opinion on CETA, which recommends that the federal government:

1. undertake and publish a thorough, timely and objective assessment of both the costs and benefits for municipalities of the CETA agenda;
2. provide an explanation of which sectors are most likely to be the principal beneficiaries of CETA, and how the purported benefits of this trade deal are to be distributed;
3. engage in effective consultations with municipalities following these analyses and before negotiations are pursued further; and
4. allow sufficient time for municipalities to solicit public comment from those potentially affected by present proposals.

These recommendations seem reasonable; I ask that you take them on as my federal representative.

Why are Canadian negotiators even considering sacrificing the freedom to source locally in this trade agreement with Europe? For example, why is the federal government thinking of giving away the ability of the municipalities to spend public money in ways that benefit the local community and promote sustainable development?

What benefit could there possibly be in doing such a thing? How will cities, provinces, workers, water and the environment be impacted across Canada by this European agreement? We need answers to these questions and the time to debate those answers as a country, before anything is signed.

Leaked files indicate U.S. pays Afghan media to run friendly stories

Buried among the 92,000 classified documents released Sunday by WikiLeaks is some intriguing evidence that the U.S. military in Afghanistan has adopted a PR strategy that got it into trouble in Iraq: paying local media outlets to run friendly stories.

Several reports from Army psychological operations units and provincial reconstruction teams (also known as PRTs, civilian-military hybrids tasked with rebuilding Afghanistan) show that local Afghan radio stations were under contract to air content produced by the United States. Other reports show U.S. military personnel apparently referring to Afghan reporters as "our journalists" and directing them in how to do their jobs.

Such close collaboration between local media and U.S. forces has been a headache for the Pentagon in the past: In 2005, Pentagon contractor the Lincoln Group was caught paying Iraqi newspapers to run stories written by American soldiers, causing the United States considerable embarrassment.

In one of the WikiLeaks documents, a PRT member reports delivering "12 hours of PSYOP Radio Content Programming" to two radio stations in the province of Ghazni in 2008, and paying one of them "$3,900 for Radio Content Programming air time for the month of October":

"The PRT provided 12 hours of PSYOP Radio Content Programming to Radio Ghaznwyan FM Station and Radio Ghazni AM/FM Station for week of 6-12 Nov. Topics included Afghanistan History, Law, and Human Rights in both Dari and Pashto, and a spreadsheet with the specific radio content programming for the week of 6-12 Nov will be forward sepcor to SPARTAN. Additionally, PRT paid Radio Ghaznwyan $3,900 for Radio Content Programming air time for the month of October."

Radio Ghaznawiyaan was established and funded by the Agency for International Development, but USAID has described it in the past as a success story for local independent journalism launched with American help. So its listeners may be surprised to learn that it is an outlet for paid U.S. "PSYOP radio content."

Another message, from 2008, records a meeting that members of the Bagram PRT held with Rahimullah Samander, the news director of the Wakht News Agency and president of the Afghan Independent Journalists Association. Samander, the memo says, "proposed a partnership with the PRT" and "offered to include PRT news articles and photos on his news service":

"Kapisa team met with a Kabul radio representative at the Kapisa TV and Radio Station. Met with Rahimullah Samander, news director for Wakht News Agency and president of the Afghan Independent Journalists Association. He provided information about his organizations and proposed a partnership with the PRT. He offered to include PRT news articles and photos on his news service. The PRT IO recommended a conference including Afghan and US military journalists to collaborate and share ideas. Samander hopes to increase the presence of his agency in Kapisa province."

Another 2008 memo records a similar meeting among psychological operations soldiers, Jalalabad PRT members, and representatives of Radio Television Afghanistan and the Shaiq Network. Both of these news organizations were directly contracted by psychological operations units to air friendly content:
The TF has a new PSYOP contract with RTA and a continuing PSYOP contract with Shaiq Network; additionally, these are key IO mediums. The purpose of the meetings were to introduce new HQ PSYOP members to the RTA and Shaiq managers, provide initial payment for the RTA contract, receive a PRT Advertising Campaign contract bid proposal from Shaiq (for the pending garbage removal initiative in Jalalabad), and tour both facilities."

The report, written by an Army information operations officer, describes the Afghan journalists as "very pro-CF [coalition forces]" and surmises that "there is a lot they are willing to do for the CF."

Two other messages seem to show U.S. soldiers referring to local Afghan media as extensions of their own units rather than independent reporters. In 2007, after insurgents attacked an Afghan National Police convoy, a member of Task Force Rock wrote that "we ... had our journalist conduct an interview with the Afghan National Police District Chief who condemned the attacks on their fellow countrymen." In another 2007 message, a Task Force Diablo soldier reported that after Taliban gunmen assassinated a local businessman, leading village elders to question the Afghan police's ability to keep the peace, "we were able to send the journalist in with our cultural advisor to speak to the elders."

An inquiry after the Lincoln Group revelations found that paying foreign news outlets to run friendly stories did not violate Department of Defense policy or U.S. law, though the practice seems to have been discontinued in Iraq.

A Defense Department spokesperson did not immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.

Ontario to drop eco fee

The Ontario government will scrap its controversial eco fee on Tuesday in a bid to quell consumer confusion and frustration from major retailers.

CBC has confirmed that Environment Minister John Gerretsen will announce that the fees retailers started charging on thousands of new products on July 1 will be eliminated.

A source said a waste-diversion program will continue.

Canadian Tire announced Monday that customers wouldn't be charged eco fees starting Tuesday. The company says the program is too complex and was mishandled by both government and businesses.

The government gave Stewardship Ontario the power to collect fees to fund a recycling program that diverts potentially hazardous items — such as fire extinguishers, household cleaners and paint — from Ontario's landfills.

But there was no public warning that the eco fee, which was introduced in 2008, would be slapped on thousands of new items this month.

Ontario's new illegal eco tax

On July 1st 2010 the Province of Ontario and the Province of British Columbia started using the HST tax system. But what no one was aware of, is that Ontario also passed a new eco fee (tax) system.

“This smells like a tax, looks like a tax, how is this different from a sales tax?” Todgham Cherniak said. “What you’ve got is the tax being passed on from someone to the consumer which means it’s an indirect tax, and under the Constitution Act... the province can only impose direct taxes, they can’t impose indirect taxes.”

Both Fruitman and Todgham Cherniak pointed to the tire tax, where the consumer pays a fee at the disposal site, as a legally acceptable way to recoup the cost of recycling a product.

Instead, under the program set up by Stewardship Ontario, a fee is charged to the “brand owner” or importer of a designated product and then passed onto the consumer either in the sticker price or as an eco fee added at the cash register.

This really shows how corrupt and Illegeal our government is becoming. On the same day that they impose a federal tax grab (HST), they also pass an illegal indirect eco tax. All of this done just days after the G20 summit. Where the Toronto police, and the other police services directly violated the Canadian Charter Of Rights.
You know that little section of the charter that's protects us against unreasonable search and seizure. That Chief Blair had no problem disregarding while he imposed (what I call the fake law) the Public protection Act. Which countless people are still being detained under!

So far main stream media outlets have picked up the story. But I fear that the public outrage is going to be temporary. Like we see with so many other issues.

So how can we fight this illegal tax? The answer is very simple. Boycott any corporation or store that enforces the eco tax.

As the main stream news covered the protests over the weekend. More specifically the Black Bloq vandalism, which has been almost totally proven to be led by agent provocateurs.

The protesters and truth seekers in Canada have had there attention diverted away from the real story. Which is the treasonous actions of Stephen Harper.

Mr. Harper has followed in the foot steps of Paul Martin and continued to sell our sovereignty down the river.

Thorold, Ontario Amputee Has His Artificial Leg Ripped Off By Police And Is Slammed In Makeshift Cell During G20 Summit

John Pruyn wasn’t much in the mood for celebrating Canada Day this year.

How could he be after the way he was treated a few days earlier in Toronto by figures of authority most of us were brought up to respect, our publicly paid-for police forces who are supposed to be there to serve and protect peaceful, law-abiding citizens like him.

The 57-year-old Thorold, Ontario resident – an employee with Revenue Canada and a part-time farmer who lost a leg above his knee following a farming accident 17 years ago – was sitting on the grass at Queen’s Park with his daughter Sarah and two other young people this June 26, during the G20 summit, where he assumed it would be safe.

As it turned out, it was a bad assumption because in came a line of armoured police, into an area the city had promised would be safe for peaceful demonstrations during the summit. They closed right in on John and his daughter and the two others and ordered them to move. Pruyn tried getting up and he fell, and it was all too slow for the police.

As Sarah began pleading with them to give her father a little time and space to get up because he is an amputee, they began kicking and hitting him. One of the police officers used his knee to press Pruyn’s head down so hard on the ground, said Pruyn in an interview this July 4 with Niagara At Large, that his head was still hurting a week later.

Accusing him of resisting arrest, they pulled his walking sticks away from him, tied his hands behind his back and ripped off his prosthetic leg. Then they told him to get up and hop, and when he said he couldn’t, they dragged him across the pavement, tearing skin off his elbows , with his hands still tied behind his back. His glasses were knocked off as they continued to accuse him of resisting arrest and of being a “spitter,” something he said he did not do. They took him to a warehouse and locked him in a steel-mesh cage where his nightmare continued for another 27 hours.

“John’s story is one of the most shocking of the whole (G20 summit) weekend,” said the Ontario New Democratic Party’s justice critic and Niagara area representative Peter Kormos, who has called for a public inquiry into the conduct of security forces during the summit. “He is not a young man and he is an amputee. …. John is not a troublemaker. He is a peacemaker and like most of the people who were arrested, he was never charged with anything , which raises questions about why they were arrested in the first place.”

Pruyn told Niagara At Large that he never was given a reason for his arrest . When he was being kicked and hand-tied, police yelled at him that he was resisting arrest. Then a court officer approached him two hours before his release on Sunday evening, June 27, and told him he should not still be there in that steel -mesh cage. So why were Pruyn and his daughter Sarah, a University of Guelph student, who was locked up somewhere else, detained in a makeshift jails for more than 24 hours, along with many other mostly young people who, so far as he could hear and see, had nothing to do with the smashing of windows and torching of a few police cars by a few hundred so-called ‘Black Bloc’ hooligans that weekend?

Why was Pruyn slammed in a cell without his glasses and artificial limb, with no water to drink in the heat for five hours and only a cement floor to sit and sleep on before his captors finally gave him a wheelchair? Why was he never read his rights or even granted the opportunity to make one phone call to a lawyer or his family – the same rights that would be granted to a notorious criminal like Clifford Olsen or Paul Bernardo?

He never received an answer to these questions and, he said, “I was never told I was charged with anything.” Neither were many of the others who were penned up in that warehouse with him, including one person who was bound to a wheelchair because was paralyzed on one side and begging, over and over again, to go to the washroom before finally wetting his pants.

Pruyn said others in the warehouse begged for a drink of water and younger people made futile pleas to call their parents to at least let them know where they were. In the meantime, Pruyn’s wife, Susan, was frantically trying to find out from the police and others what happened to her husband and daughter. She found out nothing until they were finally released 27 hours after she was supposed to meet back with them at a subway station near Queen’s Park.

So what was this all about and why were John and Sue Pruyn arrested if they were part of the gathering of peaceful demonstrators in the Queen’s Park area? Was their crime to dare to come to Toronto in the first place and join with those who express concerns about the G20 and whether it has any concern at all for the environment, for people living in poverty, for fair access to health care and other issues important to people around the world who fall into the category of ‘have nots’?

Pruyn wonders if the idea of the crackdown was to send a message to the public at large that gatherings of opposition to government policies won’t be tolerated. “That is (Prime Minister Stephen) Harper’s attitude,” he said. “He doesn’t like dissent in his own (party) ranks.”

Kormos said some might respond to the crackdown against the G20 summit demonstrators by saying that they should have stayed home or they should not have been there, or that if they were swept up by the police, they should have nothing to worry about if they did nothing wrong. But that misses the point, he said. It misses the possibility that this was another example of the province and country sliding down a path of clamping down on citizens’ right to gather together and express views that may not be popular with the government of the day.

Kormos stressed again that a public inquiry is needed, not only for those demonstrators arrested and roughed up during the summit, but for those shop owners in Toronto that had their stores vandalized by a horde of hooligans with little apparent presence of police officers to prevent it.

Asked if there was any possibility a few hundred black-clad vandals were allowed to run wild to make the thousands of people there to demonstrate peacefully look badly, Kormos responded; “That’s why we need a public inquiry.”

Susan Pruyn agreed. “ We need a public inquiry for all of the people who went (to Toronto) with good intentions and who ended up suffering that weekend,” she said.

McGuinty says no to a G20 public inquiry

So McGuinty has said that there will be no investigation into how the police handled the G20 in Toronto. Or how chief Blair flat out lied about a law and enforced a non existent law.

WOW there a shocker. Just like with 911, the criminals behind the problem will do everything in their power to stop an independent investigation.

It is up to the people to hold these criminals accountable for their actions! If we do not unite and force that to happen, it never will!

Ontario's Premier Dalton McGuinty has said no to the idea of an independent public inquiry to review police conduct during the G20 Summit.

The premier said he doesn't think one is necessary. He made the statement in an exclusive interview Friday afternoon with CTV Toronto's Paul Bliss.

Two marches have been held in Toronto since the two-day summit of world leaders ended Sunday.

The protesters have called for an independent inquiry and the resignation of Chief Bill Blair of the Toronto Police Service.

They accuse Blair of misleading people about police powers around the three-metre-high security fence that snaked around the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Police had indicated they had the power to demand people within five metres of the fence show then identification or consent to a search. If they did not, they could be arrested under the Public Works Protection Act.

The McGuinty government quietly amended the act before the summit.

As of the afternoon of Friday, June 25, Blair had been advised this was not true. However, no news release was ever issued.

Blair has said that would have been the responsibility of the G8/G20 Integrated Security Unit.

The chief has promised an internal review.

Toronto Police, the OPP, RCMP and officers from police services across Canada were involved in G20 security operations.

More than 1,000 people were arrested, but more than two-thirds were only charged with breach of peace, a very minor offence.

Some believe the police over-reacted with peaceful protest after a group of militants using so-called "black bloc" tactics engaged in vandalism, breaking windows and torching police cars.

Many have decried the conditions that existed in the Eastern Avenue temporary detention centre. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association predicts many lawsuits will be filed and says that the McGuinty government owes the Ontario public an apology.

This is some footage of police forming a circle in the middle of protesters, then abandoning their cars there. And conveniently the Black Bloc comes and sets the police vehicles on fire. After the video where a undercover police officer is caught being dressed up as a Black Bloc member, and the pictures that show the police style boots and batons used by the Black Bloc. There is little doubt that the police were using agent provocateurs.

This evidence shows that the police were being given orders to set things up for the agents in a very blatant way.

Police admit no five-metre rule existed on security fence law

The expiration of the five-metre rule that had Toronto residents fearing arrest if they strayed too close to the G20 security perimeter came with a startling revelation Tuesday – it never existed.

The rule seemed straightforward when the news broke last Friday that the Ontario government made a regulatory change to a little-known act in secret.

Come within five metres of the summit security fence and you’d better have some identification or risk arrest.

The temporary regulation, which was passed in secret June 2, did decree that all streets and sidewalks inside the fence were a public work until 11:59 p.m. Monday. Under the Ontario Public Works Protection Act, that allowed police to search people trying to enter that area.

But there was no power to search people coming within five metres of the fence, said ministry spokeswoman Laura Blondeau.

“The area designated by the regulation as a public work does not extend outside the boundary of the fence,” Ms. Blondeau said.

Asked Tuesday if there actually was a five-metre rule given the ministry’s clarification, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair smiled and said, “No, but I was trying to keep the criminals out.”

The confusion, it seems, came from the wording of the regulation.

The phrase five metres does appear, but it references land well within the fence that is neither a sidewalk nor street – land near a parking lot and land behind the Rogers Centre. A driveway below ground level in front of Union Station was also designated a public work.

Still, the misconception that any zone within five metres of the imposing steel fence – which wound its way through the downtown core – was included persisted throughout the weekend despite extensive media coverage Friday.

Neither the province nor police set the record straight. In fact, both made comments about the necessity of such powers.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association demanded an apology from the Ontario government.

“The lack of transparency surrounding the designation of the security perimeter as a public work led to misunderstanding as to the scope of the search and seizure powers during the summit,” said association spokeswoman Nathalie Des Rosiers.

“In our view it was an inappropriate use of search and seizure powers.”

There were complaints about police engaging in arbitrary searches throughout the weekend in different areas of Toronto, even far away from the G20 security zone.

The New Democrats said Premier Dalton McGuinty and his community safety minister allowed people to misinterpret the law until the G20 was over and the regulation itself had expired.

“Mr. McGuinty’s solicitor general misled the people of Ontario and the police into believing that police had the authority to demand identification and to search people without warrants,” said NDP justice critic Peter Kormos.

Toronto lawyer Rob Kittredge, an avid photographer who works near the G20 site, said Tuesday he was handcuffed and searched by police last week for taking pictures of the security fence, from the outside.

Mr. Kittredge said he knows his rights – or at least thought he did in this case – and always politely refuses to comply with police demands for identification if he feels they have no grounds.

“They told me that I did in fact have an obligation to answer their questions and provide identification and cited the Public Works Protection Act,” said Mr. Kittredge.

“They explained they had the right to ask me the purpose of my being there, they had the right to ask my name and demand identification and my address.”

Mr. McGuinty still hasn’t explained why cabinet passed the regulation change in secret, and then kept it secret.

“They knew that this was going to be a live issue and that people were going to be getting legal advice and that chances are if they didn’t publicize it, the legal advice would be wrong and misleading,” said lawyer Jonathan Dawe, who has argued cases before the Supreme Court of Canada on the scope of police powers.

“As a matter of basic fairness people should be told in advance what they’re doing that constitutes an offence.”

Opposition Leader Tim Hudak said Mr. McGuinty “should have been more honest” about the regulation change.

“I think if this was known to the general public ahead of time the vast majority of Ontario residents would have understood the need,” said Mr. Hudak.

When we arrived in Toronto at 10:30am, things were somber. About 10 police at every corner, but not many people in the streets.

We saw a few people being harrased by gangs of police.
In this picture it shows about 9 police officers circled around 1 man.

Things quickly changed around 2 pm. When the "official" march began. In the march were many groups and organizations, such as a local union, oaxfoam, Greenpeace, the communist party of Canada, Anti globalization groups, maternal rights groups all along with protesters not affiliated with any groups.

I really did not expect to see Greenpeace protesting for a carbon tax, or for the maternal rights group to be protesting without being fully informed on the topic.
The proposed maternal rights plan brought forth by Stephen Harper, calls for Canada to give 5 Billion dollars in aid. Other contributors are people like Bill Gates (who has pledged 2.5 Billion). Gates as many of us know is an admitted Eugenius, with a goal of world depopulation.

The protests did remain fairly peaceful until about 3pm. The police then started to make attempts at boxing the people in. In this process I personally witnessed police officers attacking a woman, for not moving quick enough. Thankfully most of the people in the protest were aware of what was happening, and were able to get out of the boxed in zones. This is when we saw the black block appear. We saw a group of them run by us.

The next thing we knew there were windows smashed, and a police car burning. As if nothing had happened the police still continued to try to box the protesters in. They must have made at least 5 attempt at this within a hour. With the protesters recognizing it every time.

Around 5pm things started to cool down a little bit, so we took a break and met up with our team. Shortly after That we found out that police were randomly arresting peaceful protesters on Bay St. and King St. Then the police started to attack protesters at Queens park (These were peaceful protesters that were attacked).

After Queens park we decided to call it a day, and head home. On our way to the car we went down Young St. This is when I saw the craziest part of the day!

People were shopping and walking around as if nothing was happening. Only 2 or 3 blocks away riot police were attacking protesters, and several blocks the other way riot police were facing off with protesters. This is a great sign of the kind of trouble we are facing. People can be 2 blocks away from a total police state, and pretend like it is not there.

kinda like that saying. Hear no evil, see no evil. As long as there were buildings blocking the view of what was happening they were ok. To scared to recognize what was happening.

Thankfully we had the megaphone with us. Chance used the megaphone all the way to the car. Telling the people boarding up windows that Stephen Harper would pay for that, and to send him the bill. Along with things like your city is becoming a police state but don't worry about that. Please just keep shopping.

Overall that was an insane event, and many videos will be coming soon.

G20 law gives police sweeping powers to arrest people

The province has secretly passed an unprecedented regulation that empowers police to arrest anyone near the G20 security zone who refuses to identify themselves or agree to a police search.

A 32-year-old man has already been arrested under the new regulation, which was quietly passed by the provincial cabinet on June 2.

The regulation was made under Ontario’s Public Works Protection Act and was not debated in the Legislature. According to a provincial spokesperson, the cabinet action came in response to an “extraordinary request” by Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair, who wanted additional policing powers shortly after learning the G20 was coming to Toronto.

The regulation kicked in Monday and will expire June 28, the day after the summit ends. While the new regulation appeared without notice on the province’s e-Laws online database last week, it won’t be officially published in The Ontario Gazette until July 3 — one week after the regulation expires.

“It’s just unbelievable you would have this kind of abuse of power where the cabinet can create this offence without having it debated in the Legislature,” said Howard Morton, the lawyer representing Dave Vasey, who was arrested Thursday under the sweeping new police powers.

“It was just done surreptitiously, like a mushroom growing under a rock at night.”

According to the new regulation, “guards” appointed under the act can arrest anyone who, in specific areas, comes within five metres of the security zone.

Within those areas, police can demand identification from anyone coming within five metres of the fence perimeter and search them. If they refuse, they face arrest. Anyone convicted under the regulation could also face up to two months in jail or a $500 maximum fine.

“It reminds me a little bit of the War Measures Act,” said lawyer Nathalie Des Rosiers of the new regulation. Des Rosiers is a lawyer with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, which has been working to monitor arrests during the summit. “This is highly unusual to have this declaration done by order-in-council without many people knowing about it.”

Des Rosiers learned of the regulation Thursday afternoon, shortly after Vasey was arrested while standing near the security fence.

Vasey said he was exploring the G20 security perimeter with a friend when they were stopped by police and asked for identification. Vasey says he had also been searched by police the night before.

According to Vasey, police explained there was a bylaw in place obligating him to provide identification but he refused, acting on the advice of a “Know Your Rights” information pamphlet given to him by the Toronto Community Mobilization Network, a group assisting protesters.

The York University master’s student was taken into custody at around 4 p.m. He was brought to the Eastern Ave. detention centre, a former movie studio that has been temporarily converted into a prisoner holding pen. According to his charge sheet, he was charged with refusing to comply with a peace officer under the act.

Vasey said he only learned of the new regulation after his release, at around 9 p.m. The summit’s Integrated Security Unit did not respond to interview requests from the Star.

According to Vasey’s lawyer, neither he nor his colleagues at the law union were aware of this draconian new regulation. Des Rosiers said the CCLA and protesters have met with summit officials on several occasions and the regulation was never mentioned.

“They don’t even have signs up saying you can’t be within five metres or you’re subject to the following,” Morton said. “If they really wanted to keep the peace, they would have announced the regulation.”

According to Laura Blondeau, an aide to Community Safety Minister Rick Bartolucci, the regulation “ensures that police have the legal authority” they need for such a massive security zone.

“They really wanted to ensure they could provide a certain level of security,” Blondeau said Thursday. “The regulation does not include private residences or businesses. It’s for certain streets and sidewalks in the security perimeter.”

Blondeau said “rightly or wrongly,” the new regulation can be compared with airport security.

“You don’t have to get on that plane if you don’t want to be searched and wanded,” she said, adding that Bartolucci carefully weighed public safety and civil liberty concerns before agreeing to the one-time amendment.

“It was an extraordinary request. This is just for Toronto, just for the G20,” she said. “Given the environment that the police were expecting, they needed to be prepared.”

Blondeau emphasized the law only affects those trying to enter the security zone and applies solely to police officers, not to private security guards contracted for the summit.

If someone declines to comply it empowers the police to turn them away — or face being searched.

According to government lawyers, the regulation was passed by cabinet using what is known as a “covering” order-in-council.

“The authority for the regulation is contained in the PWPA (Public Works Protection Act). The PWPA authorizes the designation by cabinet of places as ‘public works,’” the lawyers said.

The Public Works Protection Act was created in 1990 and defines a “public work” as everything from a railway to a bridge or a provincial building. The act says any other building, place or work can also be “designated a public work by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.”

Morton said he’s unaware of any precedents to such a regulation being passed in Ontario and questions if it is even constitutional.

Des Rosiers said the regulation runs contrary to the Charter of Rights because it prohibits people from generally circulating on public land.

The G20 security fence has been a magnet for passersby and protesters alike, with many people approaching to take pictures or just quench their curiosity.

For Des Rosiers, she is especially worried because most people, including protesters, will operate under the assumption they have a right to refuse handing over identification to police.

“Protesters would have been told that the law of the land is that you don’t have to talk to police officers if you don’t want to,” she said. “This changes things because even if you attempt to approach, it gives the power to the guard to demand identification.

“It’s a significant intrusion on people’s rights.”

And the G20 in Toronto begins

On the day before the g20 officially kicks off, the police really made there presence known. Charlie Veitch from the love police has been detained for not showing his Id. Luke Rudkowski from We Are Change New York was also denied entry into Canada.

A man was also arrested in Toronto for having a car load of weapons. Which included some gasoline, an axe, and a cross bow. None of these items are illegal, and sound like items that some one going camping or has recently gone camping would have.

Another report was that a "weapons cache" was found. This "cache" consisted of a few broken peices of cinder block in some bushes.

If this is the way that security is going to be handling this event. We are in for a very long weekend!

Researchers warn of earthquake

Researchers warn Southern Ontario may face earthquakes

WATERLOO, Ont. -- If a controversial theory put forth by a team of researchers studying seismic activity in Lake Ontario proves correct, Southern Ontario is more earthquake- prone than was previously believed.

"It's a fairly highly populated area, so it introduces an element of risk which didn't exist before in the minds of people," says Prof. Richard Thomas, head of the research team and director of the Waterloo Centre for Groundwater Research based at the University of Waterloo.

Scans of the bottom of Lake Ontario conducted during searches for downed aircraft revealed three previously undocumented features. Using that data and studies of their own, the research team identified the features as the result of tectonic activity due to a fault line.

The three features, known as pop-ups, plumose structures and dark linear patterns, are located in western Lake Ontario. A pop-up is a ridge with a crack at the top, formed when the bedrock fractures because of compressional forces in the crust. A plumose structure is several kilometres long and looks like a feather etched into the lake bottom. The dark linear patterns are believed to be due to natural gas coming up through the rocks into the bottom sediments.

Interestingly enough, says Thomas, the features all occur on the same line going through Burlington to Toronto. "In 1987 and 1988, there were two earthquakes recorded right on that line, which were about magnitude 3.5 (on the Richter scale). So there is earthquake evidence to suggest that the interpretation of these features is correct.

"This indicates a major fault structure occurring in that part of the lake. . . . What it indicates is that there is a greater likelihood of a significant earthquake taking place than was originally believed."

Earthquakes occurring in the Great Lakes region were thought to be in response to crustal rebound caused by the removal of ice from the last ice age. "Now, crustal rebound is taking place, but if you look at the pattern, it's not random," Thomas says. "The pattern would suggest that it's following a quite distinct orientation."

Additional work has revealed faulting in the south- eastern part of Lake Ontario. The scientists are coming to believe that Lake Ontario and possibly Lake Erie lie on an extension of the well-known St. Lawrence fault system.

The growing realization that fault lines could occur in the middle of a continent has led to a new science called intra-plate tectonics. "These are (earthquake) areas occurring in the middle of plates. The traditional belief was that all activity occurred on (continental) plate margins, where they collide or are in motion. They (mid- continental faults) are basically resulting from the various pressures induced on the plate because they're in motion, and these are lines of weakness which are currently being re- activated."

More work is needed before the team is completely satisfied that its theory is correct, Thomas adds. "What we need to do is do a lot more investigative work, using marine geo-physical systems to map the structures and make sure that they follow the concepts that we currently have."

In the scientific domain, this has been battled over since 1987, he says. "The actual release to the public, and the public debate, has only just begun. And not all scientists subscribe to this. It's still in the process of being verified. What they say is that Southern Ontario is in a stable area. It's in the middle of a continent, and it's stable, that the minor earthquakes are related to crustal rebound from removal of the ice masses, and that the Great Lakes originated by ice scrapping. The hypothesis challenges that paradigm totally.

"If you accept that it (the increased possibility of earthquakes) exists, it gives you a whole new way of looking at things."

If the theory is true, Thomas says, it may have some ramifications in the location of waste disposal sites and building construction.

He says this should be getting a bit more attention from scientists than it is receiving at present, because of the possibility of a large earthquake re-occurring in the area. The features indicate that the Great Lakes region experienced a large earthquake at some time in the past. But without knowing the "return frequency," scientists are in the dark about when it will recur.

"The return frequency is a statistical evaluation of how often an earthquake at one location will return with a certain level of magnitude," Thomas explains. "What is the return frequency of the San Francisco earthquake? It hasn't come back yet. But it will happen again. What it means is that stress is building up and releasing. Large earthquakes have a long return frequency. And the trouble is we don't know when the last large earthquake occurred in this area (the Great Lakes)."

Earthquake on the ONTARIO-QUEBEC BORDER REGION

At 1:41pm a earthquake hit the Ontario-Quebec boreder area. The quake measured at 5.5 in Magnitude.

I myslef felt it in Brantford (southern Ontario), and I have spoke with people in Toronto, Hamilton, Simcoe, and in some of the northen states who also felt the quake.

There have been no reports of any damage, injuries, or fatalities as of yet.

Water cannon added to G20 security arsenal

Police have added a water cannon to their arsenal as they step up security ahead of this week's G20 summit in Toronto.

Provincial police Const. Michelle Murphy of the Integrated Security Unit says the water projection system will be used to control large crowds if there are riots.

Activists have promised to be out in force to protest the two-day summit of world leaders that starts Friday.

Const. Murphy says the security plan is moving ahead as planned and officers are being put in place.

Toronto's police chief has said 5,100 officers have been assigned to keep the city safe as the weekend summit nears.

There are ads in local newspapers Monday explaining the security zone and advising people how to deal with it.

There was also a visible increase in the number of uniformed police officers on downtown streets over the weekend.

An extraordinary thing happened last weekend. The world’s most secretive strategy group, Bilderberg, poked its nose out of the shadows and launched its own website: bilderbergmeetings.org. For an organisation that prefers to cordon the press a mile from its meetings, whose press relations policy to date has been to arrest, harass and search journalists, this was an astonishing turnaround.

Until now, David Rockefeller’s policy forum carried on quietly out of sight. It welcomed politicians (David Cameron in 2008, George Osborne 2006-2009) to strategise in secret with corporate heads, European royalty and bank bosses. This year saw Google CEO Eric Schmidt take part alongside Robert Zoellick (president of the World Bank), Bill Gates and the usual sprinkle of EU commissioners and Goldman Sachs heavyweights. If you didn’t know it was going on, that’s understandable. It’s what they wanted.

This year, in the Spanish seaside town of Sitges, the sheer weight of attention on Bilderberg became too much for its policy of “ignorance management”. TV crews at the police line, bloggers blogging, the Spanish press asking questions about cost, the Canadian press wondering at this year’s unusual glut of Canucks – finally, the mainstream press was taking notice. I found myself taking part in a debate on the BBC World Service. I knew something had changed when Kate Adie spoke passionately of her concerns about the armed secrecy of Bilderberg.

Possible False flag at the upcoming G8/G20?

I do not like to jump the gun on the possibilities of a false flag terrorist attack. But when I saw this report, something just did not seem right.

Just before the 2010 Vancouver Olympic games, there were reports of large amounts of ammonium nitrate fertilizer "missing". This was covered heavily on the Internet and even on a few MSM news stations. Thankfully nothing happened.

Now only weeks before the G8 in Huntsville and the G20 in Toronto, CTV news is reporting that a mysterious man purchased a large amount of ammonium nitrate fertilizer in the Niagara area late last month, and that Several law enforcement agencies are investigating the case.

I see there only being to scenarios.
First one is that the RCMP likes to use the excuse of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, to have the people accept the draconian levels of security at an event (in this case the G8/G20).
Or That these are attempts at a false flag event in Canada. The first one abandoned due to the attention the story recieved.

I would personally prefer neither of these, but I sincerely hope it is the first scenario.

Bilderbergers decide indeed the policy for the coming year

Former NATO Secretary-General and Bilderberg member Willy Claes has confounded claims by debunkers that the secret organization which met in Sitges Spain over the last few days does not set policy, admitting during a Belgian radio interview that Bilderberg attendees are mandated to implement decisions that are formulated during the annual conference of power brokers.

In a radio interview reported on by the Belgian news website www.zonnewind.be, Claes told host Koen Fillet that Bilderberg does indeed decide policy for the coming year. Claes would certainly be in a position to know, being a two-time Bilderberg attendee as well as the eighth Secretary General of NATO from 1994 until 1995.

Claes said that Bilderberg guests are normally given around 10 minutes of talk time, after which a report is compiled of their presentation.

“The participants are then obviously considered to use this report in setting their policies in the environments in which they affect,” stated Claes, according to the translated text.

The host asked Claes to repeat this astounding admission, before Claes went on to explain that no two guest are allowed to sit next to each other more than once at Bilderberg, to enable the maximum exchange of views on important subjects.

A Dutch-speaking reader sent us the article and confirms that the translation is accurate. This represents a solid confirmation of what we already knew through witnessing Bilderberg’s leaked agenda later play out in the real world time after time – that the elitist organization does verbally set global policy in a completely undemocratic and illegal manner.

However, despite Claes, who personally attended the 1994 Bilderberg meeting in Helsinki when he was Belgium’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, confirming the obvious that Bilderberg does manufacture a consensus amongst its participants, which is then implemented as policy in the real world, during the past few days numerous debunkers have claimed that Bilderberg is just a talking shop that has no impact on the global stage.

Iain Hollingshead of the London Telegraph wrote a sophomoric piece in which he dismissed Bilderberg as “a group of willy-waggling old men comparing their security details and dreaming of past glories,” which is a complete misnomer seeing as Bilderberg is routinely attended by active Presidents and Prime Ministers very much in power and very much in a position to have an impact on current events, such as Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who attended this year’s conference with his country on the verge of becoming the next Greece.

Hollingshead claims that because the group is becoming more well known, its allure is on the wane, but fails to mention that this is because of the fine work of activists and real journalists who have spent decades trying to get the castrated corporate media to report on the event while people like Hollingshead either made childish jokes about the whole issue or even denied the very existence of Bilderberg.

One such “skeptic” is Chip Berlet, who works for a group called the Political Research Associates, which is funded in part by the Ford Foundation, founded by Edsel Ford, the son of the notorious Henry Ford, who received awards from Hitler for funding the Nazi war machine with slave labor, which somewhat taints the PRA’s stated objectives, which are apparently to track conspiracy theories and the the right-wing while “advancing an open, democratic, and pluralistic society”.

The Ford Foundation is little more than an attack dog which transnational elitists use, through its offshoots like PRA, to demonize any criticism of their agenda as extremist and anti-semitic, which is quite rich considering the history of the corporation.

Berlet himself has made a career out of characterizing the idea that powerful people might get together and discuss ways of expanding their power as a belief of the lunatic fringe.

Little surprise therefore that towards the end of Berlet’s appearance on Russia Today, in which he stumbles through a broken record of excuses claiming Bilderberg has no power, he invokes the tired old cliche that anyone who expresses concern about 200 powerful men gathering in secret with no democratic oversight whatsoever behind a wall of security is probably a closet racist.

Berlet claims the American Free Press was founded by “one of the biggest anti-semitic, neo-fascist conspiracy theorists in the world,” which coincidentally is also a pretty apt description of the man who founded the company that now pays Berlet via the Ford Foundation funding PRA receives to spew his propaganda – Henry Ford – one of Hitler’s biggest supporters.

Berlet demonizes the notion that the Bilderberg Group has any influence over world affairs or is working towards a new world order as “a lot of malarkey,” and “a hoax carried out by people who believe in an elaborate fairy tale about how power is exercised in the world”.

He then completely contradicts himself by admitting “they talk over policy” but then claims “the organization itself has no power” before stating, “The policies that are formulated don’t hold any power within the nation that people who go to the meeting….they go back to their country and say hey I heard this at the Bilderberger meeting what do you think? And the national assembly or the powerful people say I think that’s a lot of malarkey take it back and shove it someplace, so this idea that this is a plot that is carried out to 30 or 40 countries and implemented is baloney.”

Really? So according to Berlet, the Prime Minister of Spain, his Secretary General, and the Queen of Spain, all of whom attended the Bilderberg meeting this past weekend, go back home and are then told to “shove” whatever they discussed at Bilderberg by “the powerful people”. These are the powerful people! These are the people who run the country. Presumably, Berlet believes there are powerful people above the Prime Minister and the Queen of Spain who tell them what to do, which sounds like an even bigger conspiracy theory than the one he is attempting to debunk.

Of course in reality, Berlet knows that the most powerful people in the world attend Bilderberg and he is either completely ignorant or deliberately lying by claiming that Bilderberg has no impact on policy.

Merely on the face of it the claim that Bilderberg does not have an influence on policy is patently ridiculous. This would be akin to claiming that a four-day gathering of 200 MLB officials would have no impact on the future of baseball. Despite the fact that many politicians shunned Bilderberg this year because of the group’s increasing notoriety as a furtive and insidious front for anti-democratic elitists, just take a look at the list of powerful individuals who did attend.

Top CEO’s like Bill Gates of Microsoft and Eric Schmidt of Google, top bankers like Marcus Agius of Barclays and Peter Sutherland of Goldman Sachs, don’t meet with national Presidents, Prime Ministers, big newspaper owners, members of the European Parliament and officials in the U.S. government to talk about tiddlywinks. They don’t get together for four days and surround themselves with a security ring of steel to discuss the weather or American Idol – they’re at Bilderberg to come to a consensus and then to implement it in their respective spheres of influence, just as Claes confirms in the radio interview.

Using bluff and slimy semantics, apologists like Berlet imply that just because no treaties or laws are signed at Bilderberg, that the group has no power. In reality, Bilderberg sets the global consensus for the agenda that is subsequently implemented in the host countries of the Bilderberg members, a process that holds even more power than signing an individual treaty. Bilderberg sets the consensus for a whole gamut of policy areas, from oil, to the environment, to wars, to the economy.

This is confirmed not only by former NATO Secretary-General and Bilderberg member Willy Claes in the radio interview we covered earlier, but it is manifestly evident in the policies that have later come to pass after being formulated at Bilderberg.

Indeed, Bilderberg chairman Étienne Davignon last year bragged about how the Euro single currency was a brainchild of the Bilderberg Group.

“A meeting in June in Europe of the Bilderberg Group- an informal club of leading politicians, businessmen and thinkers chaired by Mr. Davignon- could also ‘improve understanding’ on future action, in the same way it helped create the Euro in the 1990s, he said,” reported the EU Observer in March 2009.

The foundations for the EU and ultimately the Euro single currency were laid by the secretive Bilderberg Group in the mid-1950’s. Bilderberg’s own leaked documents prove that the agenda to create a European common market and a single currency was formulated by Bilderberg in 1955.

As we first reported in 2003, a BBC investigative team were allowed to access Bilderberg files which confirmed that the EU and the Euro were the brainchild of Bilderberg

The summary report of the 1955 Bilderberg meeting which took place from September 23-25 1955 at the Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany, talks of the “Pressing need to bring the German people, together with the other peoples of Europe, into a common market.”

The document also outlines the plan, “To arrive in the shortest possible time at the highest degree of integration, beginning with a common European market.”

Just two years later, in 1957, the first incarnation of the European Economic Community (EEC) was born, which comprised of a single market between Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The EEC gradually enlarged over the next few decades until it became the European Community, one of the three pillars of the European Union, which was officially created in 1993.

The 1955 Bilderberg summary outlines a consensus that, “It might be better to proceed through the development of a common market by treaty rather than by the creation of new high authorities.” The EEC was duly created via the Treaty of Rome, which was signed on 25 March 1957.

Debunkers like Berlet will probably still try and claim that the idea of a common European market was floating around in the early 1950’s and that Bilderberg were merely debating contemporary political ideas.

However, the same cannot be said for the single European currency, which wasn’t even introduced in the form of notes and coins until January 2002, having been first codified in the 1992 Maastricht Treaty. The documents prove that Bilderberg members were pushing for its introduction nearly 40 years earlier.

“A European speaker expressed concern about the need to achieve a common currency, and indicated that in his view this necessarily implied the creation of a central political authority,” states the summary document.

True to form, the single European currency, the Euro, was not introduced until after the creation of a central political authority – the EU itself.

The document also stresses, “The necessity to bring the German people into a common European market as quickly as possible,” adding that the future was in danger without a “United Europe”.

These proven examples of Bilderberg formulating some of the biggest policies of the 20th century do not even come from leaks obtained by journalists from within the meetings, they come directly from the mouth of Bilderberg’s chairman and Bilderberg’s own internal documents.

However, leaks from inside the meetings uncovered by independent journalists have also proven routinely accurate in confirming that Bilderberg has a massive impact on policy decisions.

In spring 2002, when war hawks in the Bush administration were pushing for a summer invasion of Iraq, Bilderbergers expressed their desire for a delay and the attack was not launched until March the following year.

In 2006, journalists who got leaked information from inside Bilderberg predicted that the U.S. housing market would be allowed to soar before the bubble was cruelly popped, which is exactly what transpired.

In June 2008, we learned that Bilderberg were creating the conditions for a financial calamity, which is exactly what began a few months later with the collapse of Lehman Brothers.

Bilderberg has habitually flexed its muscles in establishing its role as kingmaker. The organization routinely selects presidential candidates as well as running mates and prime ministers.

Despite widespread expectation that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair would be announced as the first European Union President, the former Prime Minister of Belgium, Herman Van Rompuy, was picked for the role just days after he attended a Bilderberg Group dinner meeting.

Bill Clinton and Tony Blair were both groomed by the secretive organization in the early 1990’s before rising to prominence.

Barack Obama’s running mate Joe Biden was selected by Bilderberg luminary James A. Johnson, and John Kerry’s 2004 running mate John Edwards was also anointed by the group after he gave a glowing speech at the conference in 2004. Bilderberg attendees even broke house rules to applaud Edwards at the end of a speech he gave to the elitists about American politics. The choice of Edwards was shocking to media pundits who had fully expected Dick Gephardt to secure the position. The New York Post even reported that Gephardt had been chosen and “Kerry-Gephardt” stickers were being placed on campaign vehicles before being removed when Edwards was announced as Kerry’s number two.

A 2008 Portuguese newspaper report highlighted the fact that Pedro Santana Lopes and Jose Socrates attended the 2004 meeting in Stresa, Italy before both going on to become Prime Minster of Portugal.

Several key geopolitical decisions were made at the 2008 Bilderberg meeting in Washington DC, again emphasizing the fact that the confab is far more than an informal get-together.

As we reported at the time, Bilderberg were concerned that the price of oil was accelerating too fast after it hit $150 a barrel and wanted to ensure that “oil prices would probably begin to decline”. This is exactly what happened in the latter half of 2008 as oil again sunk below $50 a barrel. We were initially able to predict the rapid rise in oil prices in 2005 when oil was at $40, because Bilderberg had called for prices to rise during that year’s meeting in Munich. During the conference in Germany, Henry Kissinger told his fellow attendees that the elite had resolved to ensure that oil prices would double over the course of the next 12-24 months, which is exactly what happened.

Also at the 2008 meeting, former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice formalized plans to sign a treaty on installing a U.S. radar base in the Czech Republic with Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg.

Rice was joined at the meeting by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who reportedly encouraged EU globalists to get behind an attack on Iran. Low and behold, days later the EU threatened Iran with sanctions if it did not suspend its nuclear enrichment program. For the first time, the majority of Bilderberg members expressed their support for an attack on Iran during this year’s meeting in Sitges.

There was also widespread speculation that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama’s “secret meeting,” which was accomplished with the aid of cloak and dagger tactics like locking journalists on an airplane to keep them from tracking the two down, took place at the 2008 Bilderberg meeting in DC.

So as we can see, there are a plethora of examples of Bilderberg setting a consensus on a particular policy area which later comes to pass at both the national and international levels. To claim otherwise is to be completely ignorant of the manifestly provable fact that Bilderberg has immense power in setting agreements on policy and exercises that power on a regular basis.

In light of this, Berlet and Hollingshead are either shoddy journalists who have done no research whatsoever and are merely phoning it in, or they are being paid to deliberately spew biased and completely inaccurate information by the establishment they work for in a futile attempt to convince people that Bilderberg has no power, presumably in an effort to halt growing numbers of protesters who descend on Bilderberg each year, whom Bilderberg members now class as a “threat” to their agenda and secrecy.

Iran Revolutionary Guards ready to escort Gaza ships

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards are ready to provide a military escort to cargo ships trying to break Israel's blockade of Gaza, a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Sunday.

"Iran's Revolutionary Guards naval forces are fully prepared to escort the peace and freedom convoys to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities," Ali Shirazi, Khamenei's representative inside the Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Any intervention by the Iranian military would be considered highly provocative by Israel which accuses Iran of supplying weapons to Hamas, the Islamist movement which rules Gaza.

Iran does not recognize the Israeli state and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has often predicted its imminent demise.

Israel and its ally the United States decline to rule out military action against Iran if it looks like acquiring nuclear arms capability, something Israel sees as a threat to its survival.

Tehran says its nuclear program is for energy generation and medical purposes and calls its nuclear-armed adversaries hypocrites for trying to block its technological progress.

The Iranian state news agency IRNA said Sunday Iran would try to send humanitarian aid to Gaza in ships under an Iranian flag. It said Iran had decided to ditch previous plans to send its aid in ships flying the flag of another state.

"The Iranian humanitarian assistance will include foodstuffs, medicines and medical equipment," the head of Iran's Red Crescent Society, Abdolraouf Abidzadeh, was quoted as saying. He gave no more details.

Last Monday Israeli troops killed nine activists on board one ship in a convoy trying to deliver aid to Gaza, sparking international outrage, especially in Muslim countries.

Another ship was boarded Saturday and pro-Palestinian activists have promised more as they challenge the blockade imposed four years ago with the stated aim of stopping arms getting to Hamas.

Shirazi said Iran should encourage more international efforts to break the blockade. "We should expose our enemies to a spontaneous global action and not let them achieve their heinous goals," he said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would continue to stop ships reaching the shore and creating "an Iranian port in Gaza," a reference to Iran's support for Hamas.

The Revolutionary Guards, with their own navy, air force and command structure separate from the regular armed forces, are seen as fiercely loyal to the supreme leader.

"If the supreme leader issues an order for this then the Revolutionary Guard naval forces will do their best to secure the ships," Shirazi said. "It is Iran's duty to defend the innocent people of Gaza."

Bilderbergers Green Light Attack On Iran

The 2010 Bilderberg agenda has been revealed by veteran Bilderberg sleuth Jim Tucker and it paints a picture of crisis for the globalists, who are furious at the increased exposure their gatherings have received in recent years, as well as being dismayed at their failure to rescue both the euro and the failing carbon tax agenda, but more alarmingly according to Tucker, the majority of Bilderberg members are now in favor of military air strikes on Iran.

American Free Press muckraker Tucker has proven routinely accurate with the information he obtains from sources inside Bilderberg, which makes this year’s revelations all the more intriguing.

According to Tucker, Bilderberg luminaries are dismayed at the fact that “many important people” are not attending this year because, due to increasing exposure, invitees are “getting in trouble at home” and constituents are embarrassing them by asking irate questions such as “what are you doing with these monsters?”

“All these people are exposing us, we get all this mail and calls,” Tucker paraphrased Bilderberg members as complaining.

This dovetails with the revelations overheard by Guardian journalist Charlie Skelton at the Hotel Dolce Sitges before the meeting began when he heard conference organizers lamenting the fact that protest numbers are growing at Bilderberg events each year and that they represent a “threat” to Bilderberg’s agenda.

In addition, prominent Bilderberg Zbigniew Brzezinski, the man who warned recently that a “global political awakening” was threatening to derail the move towards global government, was expected to be in attendance at this year’s meeting.

Tucker named his source as an international financial consultant who personally knows Bilderberg members and has done business with them for the past 20 years.

Turning to Iran, Tucker said that many Bilderberg members, including Brzezinski, were in favor of U.S. air strikes on Iran and were “leaning towards war,” although 100 per cent of members were not supportive of an attack.

“Some of them in Europe are saying no we shouldn’t do it but most of them are in favor of American air strikes on Iran,” said Tucker, adding, “They’re tilting heavily towards green lighting a U.S. attack on Iran.”

An attack on Iran would provide a welcome distraction to the globalists’ failings in other areas and would also allow them to war profiteer, pointed out Tucker.

On the subject of the euro, Tucker said that the Bilderberg elitists were determined to save the single currency even as it collapsed to a new 4-year-low at $1.19 against the dollar yesterday afternoon. As we have highlighted, the globalists are panicking at the euro’s fall and the ECB keeps intervening to try and hasten its decline. If the euro were to cease to exist, it would all but derail the ultimate agenda for a global currency because the perceived stability of using one currency for a plethora of nations would be discredited.

“The euro is important because it’s part of their world government program, they’re very downbeat because they’ve fallen so far behind,” said Tucker, explaining that the globalists had planned by now to have the European Union, the American Union and the Asia-Pacific Union already up and running.

With regard to the climate change agenda, on which subject Microsoft founder Bill Gates was personally invited to the conference to discuss, Tucker said that Bilderberg were still intent on pushing it in pursuit of a carbon tax despite the fact that the whole move was massively eviscerated in the aftermath of the Climategate scandal.

Tucker quoted one Bilderberg member as all but admitting defeat on the mission to hoodwink the public into paying taxes in the name of fighting global warming.

“On climate change, we’re about whipped,” said one of the elitists in attendance.

However, Tucker said that the globalists were working on putting out more climate change propaganda “even as we speak”.

On the issue of the BP oil spill, the Bilderbergers made it clear that President Obama’s apparent “outrage” at BP and his threat of criminal procedures against the company was an little more than an act and that British Petroleum, who have been represented at Bilderberg meetings in the past by people like Peter Sutherland, former non-executive chairman of BP, were still “one of our brothers,” according to the elitists.

The future of oil prices are always an important topic to Bilderberg and the leaks Tucker and other investigators relayed from previous Bilderberg meetings were proven accurate when oil prices hit $150 a barrel in 2008, which was precisely what Bilderberg had called for.

“Gas prices are going to be nice and cheap this summer,” said Tucker, adding that they would start to rise again to the $4 a gallon level around November when artificial scarcity is created.

On the march towards anti-democratic global government, Bilderberg members stated that America must be “Europeanized” and turned into a giant socialist welfare state with health rationing and higher income taxes.

Tucker said hat Bilderberg were intent on mandating a bank tax paid directly to the IMF to fund global governance and a global treasury department under the IMF, and that this would then merely be passed on to the consumer.

In summary, Tucker said that this year’s conference was the most downbeat and pessimistic Bilderberg meeting in history, with massive exposure of their agenda acting as a roadblock to the ultimate goal of an authoritarian world government run by the elite, for the elite.

President Obama tried Wednesday to channel public outrage about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill into support for a climate-change bill, seeking to redefine an issue that threatens to tarnish his presidency.

In a speech at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University, Obama made one of his strongest pitches for comprehensive climate legislation, arguing that the case for breaking the nation's addiction to fossil fuels has been made clearer by the environmental catastrophe in the gulf.

The president vowed to gather votes for the climate bill in the "coming months" and repeated his intention to roll back billions of dollars in tax breaks for big oil companies, to tap natural gas reserves as an alternative to coal, and to increase reliance on nuclear power -- although energy experts said that such a program would leave the country just as dependent on offshore oil.

"I will make the case for a clean-energy future wherever I can, and I will work with anyone from either party to get this done. But we will get this done," Obama said. "The next generation will not be held hostage to energy sources from the last century."

Allies of the president have argued for weeks that the administration should stop talking about BP, the oil company responsible for the spill, and instead tap into the public attention to the catastrophe in hopes of giving it at least some redemptive value in the long term.

"The oil disaster adds new urgency and a new opportunity for connecting with the public," said Daniel J. Weiss of the Center for American Progress. "The administration was going to do it anyway, but this gives it a new way to talk about it."

Those urging action have sent White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel briefs that argue for a final push on the climate legislation, and others have had conversations with climate adviser Carol M. Browner and legislative director Phil Schiliro.

In an online column posted Wednesday, Weiss and CAP President John D. Podesta argued that "the horrible BP oil disaster has reminded Americans that we must reduce our oil use," adding: "We share the view that this presents an unprecedented opportunity to take bold action to achieve this goal."

Energy experts warned that climate legislation would have little impact on the need to search for oil in the Gulf of Mexico to meet U.S. demands. Offshore oil provides a growing portion of U.S. oil production, and deep-water wells account for a rising share of the offshore output. The gulf provides about 40 percent of U.S. oil production.

Obama's earlier mandate to improve automobile fuel efficiency will do much more than a climate bill to cut oil use, but even a sharp drop in U.S. consumption would leave the nation a net importer and thus dependent on offshore oil. The president made this point when he endorsed an expansion of offshore drilling weeks before a drilling rig exploded April 20 and triggered the spill.

"The president is correct that we need more [renewable energy], but we need more oil, too," said J. Robinson West, chairman of PFC Energy, a Washington consulting firm.

The leading supporters of climate-change legislation on Capitol Hill cheered Obama's remarks as a clear step up from his rhetoric in recent months, when he often left unclear whether he was going to push for energy reform this year.

Goldman Sachs sold $250 million of BP stock before spill

Firm's stock sale nearly twice as large as any other institution; Represented 44 percent of total BP investment

The brokerage firm that's faced the most scrutiny from regulators in the past year over the shorting of mortgage related securities seems to have had good timing when it came to something else: the stock of British oil giant BP.

According to regulatory filings, RawStory.com has found that Goldman Sachs sold 4,680,822 shares of BP in the first quarter of 2010. Goldman's sales were the largest of any firm during that time. Goldman would have pocketed slightly more than $266 million if their holdings were sold at the average price of BP's stock during the quarter.

If Goldman had sold these shares today, their investment would have lost 36 percent its value, or $96 million. The share sales represented 44 percent of Goldman's holdings -- meaning that Goldman's remaining holdings have still lost tens of millions in value.

The sale and its size itself isn't unusual for a large asset management firm. Wall Street brokerages routinely buy and sell huge blocks of shares for themselves and their clients. In light of a recent SEC lawsuit arguing that Goldman kept information about a product they sold from their clients, however, the stock sale may raise fresh concern among Goldman's critics. Goldman is also a frequent target of liberals and journalists, including Rolling Stone's Matt Taibbi, who famously dubbed the firm a "vampire squid."

Two calls placed to Goldman Sachs' media office in New York Wednesday morning after US markets opened were not immediately returned, though Raw Story decided to publish the story quickly after the calls since the stock sale had been already noted online.
Others also sold stock

Other asset management firms also sold huge blocks of BP stock in the first quarter -- but their sales were a fraction of Goldman's. Wachovia, which is owned by Wells Fargo, sold 2,667,419 shares; UBS, the Swiss bank, sold 2,125,566 shares.

Wachovia and UBS also sold much larger percentages of their BP stock, at 98 percently and 97 percent respectively.

Wachova parent Wells Fargo, however, bought 2.3 million shares in the quarter, largely discounting Wachovia's sales.

Those reported buying BP's stock included Wellington Management, a large asset firm, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

BP is struggling to cap a massive oil leak at one of its drill sites in the Gulf of Mexico. The firm's myriad safety violations over the years have come to light in lieu of the Gulf disaster.

BP traded on average at $56.86 in the first quarter, according to GuruFocus, a site that monitors the major trading moves of prominent investors. A list of major institutions' sales of BP stock are available at the market research website Morningstar.

It's certainly unknown as to why the firms sold their holdings. In its analysis of the company in mid-March, Morningstar, the market research site, gave the company an average rating of three out of a possible five stars.

"BP's valuation carries more uncertainty than ExxonMobil's or Shell's because the firm is less integrated, with more of its earnings coming from the [exploration and production] business than from potentially offsetting refining operations," the site's analyst wrote. "Like its peers, a sustained drop in oil and gas prices can hurt upstream earnings. Lower crude-oil feedstock costs could help refining margins, but refined product pricing lags could quickly swing refining profits to losses. BP's global business faces potential disruptions caused by political risks, particularly with its heavy exposure to Russia. Disruptions caused by environmental and operational constraints could further limit earnings potential."

The transnational oil company, like other energy giants, was hit with lower oil and gas prices in the past year after the price of oil surged in 2008.

"BP's fourth quarter marked another quarter of year-over-year production gains, with a 3% increase thanks to new field startups," Morningstar's analyst wrote in another note, after BP turned in better than expected fourth quarter results in February. "BP reported fourth-quarter replacement cost profit of $3.4 billion, up 33% from year-ago earnings of $2.6 billion, as upstream earnings growth was more than enough to offset downstream weakness. For the full year, BP's earnings of $14 billion were 45% below year-ago earnings of $26 billion, in part because of lower oil prices earlier in the year. We're encouraged by BP's sequential earnings gains as new projects and cost-cutting efforts drive upstream results."

The SEC filed a civil lawsuit against Goldman Sachs and one of its vice presidents in April, asserting that the firm had committed fraud by misrepresenting a mortgage-investment product inherently designed to fail. The company helped a hedge fund trader create a mortgage investment that gained value as mortgage borrowers defaulted en masse.

In response, Goldman said the SEC's charges were “completely unfounded in law and fact” and averred that it would “vigorously contest them and defend the firm and its reputation.”

The firm has also faced criticism over giant bonuses paid to staff amidst the US financial crisis. Goldman reduced the sizes of its staff bonuses this year to $16.9 billion, and said it would pay its chief executive $9 million, far less than the previous year.

Goldman also announced it would create a $500 million program to help small businesses. Critics noted that the figure represented just 3% of the bonus pool.

Israel should lead investigation into attack on Gaza flotilla, says US

The United States has blocked demands at the UN security council for an international inquiry into Israel's assault on the Turkish ship carrying aid to Gaza that left nine pro-Palestinian activists dead.

A compromise statement instead calls for an impartial investigation which Washington indicated could be carried out by Israel.

Turkey pressed for the security council to launch an investigation similar to Richard Goldstone's inquiry into last year's fighting in Gaza which prompted protests from Israel when it concluded that Israel and Hamas were probably guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Ankara wanted the investigation into the raid on the Mavi Marmara to result in the prosecution of officials responsible for the assault and the payment of compensation to the victims.

But in hours of diplomatic wrangling, the US blocked the move and instead forced a statement that called for "a prompt, impartial, credible and transparent investigation conforming to international standards". The US representative at the security council discussions, Alejandro Wolff, indicated that Washington would be satisfied with Israel investigating itself when he called for it to undertake a credible investigation.

The Israeli government is certain to launch its own inquiry in part as a response to domestic criticism that its forces were ill-prepared for the resistance they met on the ship. But any self-inquiry is likely to be met with the same scepticism beyond Israel's borders that met its investigations into last year's Gaza war and its 2006 invasion of Lebanon which criticised aspects of the handling of the operations but did not challenge the underlying claim that they were essential for Israel's security.

The Americans also blocked criticism of Israel for violating international law by assaulting a ship in international waters in the security council statement proposed by Turkey, the Palestinians and Arab nations.

The US instead forced a broader statement that condemned "those acts which resulted in the loss" of life.

However, the security council statement did criticise Israel's siege of Gaza as "not sustainable" and called for a "sustained and regular flow of goods and people to Gaza, as well as unimpeded provision and distribution of humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza".

Turkey's foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, called the raid on the Mavi Marmara "tantamount to banditry and piracy; it is murder conducted by a state".

The French ambassador to the UN, Gerard Araud, said "there was disproportionate use of force and a level of violence which nothing justifies and which we condemn".

Wolff told the security council that the organisers of the flotilla had been irresponsible in trying to deliver aid by sea in the face of the Israeli blockade.

Toronto asks feds to move G20 summit to avoid disruptions

OTTAWA - The City of Toronto has asked the federal government to relocate this summer's G20 summit to prevent Canada's biggest city from being "severely impacted" by the event, according to a Toronto councillor.

In a letter to his constituents this week, Councillor Adam Vaughn warns that the summit could cause "serious disruptions" to the city's downtown core.

"Summits such as this in Quebec City and Seattle have presented serious challenges to host cities. Anti-terrorism precautions, crowd control and the reality that these meetings usually draw large numbers of protesters, will mean that much of the ward will be severely impacted by security initiatives," writes Mr. Vaughn, who represents Ward 20 in Toronto, where the summit is expected to be held.

"I have received a ‘classified' briefing so far. There will be serious disruptions. The security perimeter will be much larger than the area affected by the recent NFL games, and the protests are expected to be larger than last spring's Tamil demonstrations."

Canada was originally supposed to host a meeting this summer of the G8 leaders in the cottage-country town of Huntsville, Ont., north of Toronto. But the federal government decided to expand the summit to include the G20 countries after it became clear that organization had become the dominant forum for dealing with the financial crisis and other economic issues.

The G20 summit will be held on June 26-27, and is expected to take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, a stone's throw from the CN Tower. The G8 summit will still be held in Huntsville on June 25-26.

If held at the convention centre, the summit would affect one of the city's busiest areas for business, tourism and entertainment. The convention centre lies at the edge of Toronto's financial district, and is also close to the Air Canada Centre and Union Station.

Mr. Vaughn said the city would prefer the summit to be located at Exhibition Stadium, which is slightly removed from the city's downtown core. But he says the federal government has refused to consult with his ward.

"The city has tried to convince Ottawa to move this event to Exhibition Place, but the federal government insists on staging it near Front Street, between Yonge and Spadina," Mr. Vaughn wrote in his letter.

Mr. Vaughn says the massive security preparations for the summit will disrupt his ward before and after the event.

"There will be fences, security checks and a significant number of street closures. The event may only last for two days, but preparations and clean-up will extend the period of disruption."

The Prime Minister's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Journalists cannot protect sources: top court

OTTAWA — Canadian media's attempt to establish a right to protect confidential sources was quashed by the nation's highest court on Friday.

In an 8-1 ruling, the Supreme Court ordered the National Post daily to hand over to police documents obtained from a source in 2001 alleging a former prime minister's involvement in a loan scandal.

The court recognized the public's interest "in being informed about matters of public importance that may only see the light of day through the cooperation of sources who will not speak except on condition of confidentiality."

Canada's judiciary was urged to respect promises of confidentiality given to a secret source by a journalist or an editor "in appropriate circumstances."

But the public's interest "is not absolute," the court ruled. "It must be balanced against other important public interests, including the investigation of crime.

"The bottom line is that no journalist can give a source a total assurance of confidentiality. All such arrangements necessarily carry an element of risk that the source's identity will eventually be revealed," it said.

The leaked documents appeared to expose then-prime minister Jean Chretien's role in loans made to a country inn and golf course in his hometown of Shawinigan, Quebec.

The documents, provided in exchange for a broad and unconditional promise of confidentiality, allegedly showed that the owner of the golf club owed money to Chretien and planned to repay it with a loan from a federally funded bank.

But the bank complained to federal police about what it called an attempt to commit forgery and dupe the Post into publishing a story implicating a former prime minister of serious financial conflicts of interest.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police asked for the documents and the envelope containing them as evidence of the alleged forgery in order to determine the sender's identity.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court also said that a constitutional protection of freedom of expression is not limited to "traditional media" but is enjoyed by "everyone."

The rights extend to blogging, tweeting, "standing on a street corner and shouting the 'news' at passing pedestrians," as well as publishing in a national newspaper, the court said.

But granting immunity to sources deemed worthy to quote on condition of anonymity by "such a heterogeneous and ill-defined group of writers and speakers... would blow a giant hole in law enforcement and other constitutionally recognized values such as privacy," it added.

Ontario to link hospital CEOs’ pay to quality of care

The compensation of hospital chief executive officers in Ontario would be tied to how effectively they improve the quality of patient care, under proposed pay-for-performance rules unveiled on Monday .

The proposed legislation is part of the McGuinty government’s plan to get a bigger bang for the investments it is making in health care, postsecondary education and other programs. Premier Dalton McGuinty has said he would consider expanding the concept of pay for performance to the top executive of every Crown corporation and agency in the province.

His government is beginning by targeting hospital CEOs, 14 of whom made more than $500,000 last year. While the so-called Excellent Care for All Bill is not expressly designed to lower salaries and bonuses for top executives of the province’s 154 hospitals, compensation could go up or down depending on performance, Health Minister Deb Matthews told reporters Monday .

“I am concerned about compensation generally in the health-care sector,” she said, “but this bill does not address those concerns.”

Rather, Ms. Matthews said, the new rules would make executives accountable not just for the fiscal health of their hospital but also for how effectively they put patients’ needs first. This includes reducing rates of infection among patients and the number of patients who are discharged from hospital and then re-admitted. Medical errors would be reported directly to patients and hospital executives – a practice already in place in large teaching hospitals.

But Ms. Matthews made it clear the government has no plans to play a more hands-on role in the province’s hospitals – a concern fuelled by Mr. McGuinty’s calls last March for a wage freeze for one million public-sector workers to help Ontario erase its record $21.3-billion deficit. The task of overseeing the development of a quality improvement plan would be up to each hospital’s board of directors, Ms. Matthews said, and an unspecified portion of a CEO’s compensation would be tied to achieving its objectives.

“This is a vote of confidence in the local governance of hospitals,” Ms. Matthews said at a news conference at Toronto General Hospital, where she was applauded by smiling hospital CEOs. Robert Bell, the chief executive officer of University Health Network and the province’s highest-paid hospital executive in 2009, played host to the event.

Opposition members and a patient advocate’s group criticized the government for not reining in soaring salaries for top hospital executives while nurses and other front-line health-care workers lose their jobs.

It is the boards of directors that allowed CEO salaries to “get out of control” in the first place, said New Democratic Leader Andrea Horwath.

“It really is a sham, and the government really has turned its back on the opportunity to get these salaries under control,” she said.

There’s nothing in the proposed legislation that protects a patient’s access to care, said Natalie Mehra of the Ontario Health Coalition. “It doesn’t matter if there’s great quality care if you can’t get to it.”

But John Abbott, chief executive officer of the Health Council of Canada, applauded the government for introducing good prudent health management to the province. Under the proposed legislation, every hospital would be required to measure quality using a number of different metrics, including standardized patient surveys. Hospitals would be required to post annual quality improvement plans on their website.

“None of these are rocket science,” Mr. Abbott said. “These are basic tools of the trade.”

Faisal Shahzad: Portrait of a patsy

It would be ridiculously easy to set up Faisal Shahzad. New American, a little on the make, with family in Pakistan and big financial problems. Friendly government agent approaches him and appeals to his patriotism and love of adventure, plus offers to pay well (note the history). First mission: infiltrate a ‘terrorist’ training camp in Pakistan (little does Shahzad know that the camp is really run by the CIA). Second mission: buy a cheap used car on Craigslist. Third mission: buy some fireworks. Fourth mission: stay at home awaiting further instructions. Shahzad, seeing his car on TV, suddenly got that Lee Harvey Oswald feeling, and decided it might be better to get out of the country before he died in a shoot-out.

Despite a gazillion cameras and CCTVs in Times Square, there is not the slightest evidence that Shahzad was actually there with the car. Complete absence of forensics in the car points to a government job. Strangely enough, so does the utter incompetence of the bomb – even without any training, Shahzad could have done better – and the fact that the bomb was modelled after the incompetent car bomb at Edinburgh (which Shahzad couldn’t have known to copy – we’re supposed to believe it came out of training at the same incompetent bomb-making school in Pakistan!).

They say he’s talking, but who knows. They have him in a tough spot, liable to be labeled an ‘enemy combatant’ with the loss of all rights, and friendly authorities in Pakistan have his family in custody for further blackmail. Patsies always find themselves in a position where there is no way out.

I suspect the ‘no fly list’ problem is phony, intended by American authorities as a way of forcing recalcitrant airlines to get in line. The entire story of his capture is hinky, from the alleged fact that the FBI somehow ‘lost‘ him, to the entire buried story of American Army involvement (whatever happened to posse comitatus?). Gawker investigated the changed story, and the attempt at an innocent excuse is ridiculous (and note the drone reference at the end of the Gawker article: drone blowback against the American people is particularly ironic given illegal American drone killings in Pakistan).

NORAD exercise planned for South-Central Ontario Region

WINNIPEG, MB The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the Canadian NORAD Region (CANR) will conduct Exercise Amalgam Virgo this week in the south-central Ontario region in support of preparations for the G8 and G20 Summits.

The exercise, which will be conducted May 6-7, will involve Canadian Forces CF-18 Hornet fighter jets and CH-124 Sea King and CH-146 Griffon helicopters flying at low altitudes. Residents in the exercise area may hear aircraft noise and perhaps see aircraft flying at various times throughout the day.

NORAD maintains aircraft assets throughout North America in order to support its bi-national mission of aerospace warning and control for North America. As the Canadian geographical component of NORAD, CANR provides airspace surveillance and control, and directs all air sovereignty activities for the Canadian NORAD Region.

Training is conducted in a disciplined manner and in a professional environment to ensure NORAD’s rapid response capability. To maintain the integrity of its air defense mission, NORAD will not discuss specific details of the exercises.

HST arrives in Ontario and B.C.

The introduction of the harmonized sales tax in two of Canada's largest provinces and a wave of other new expenses could take a toll just as Canadians were beginning to feel some confidence about opening their wallets again, experts say.

Shoppers in British Columbia and Ontario start paying the HST on Saturday on a number of services — including theatre packages, airplane tickets and gym memberships — that will continue to be delivered after July 1, the day the HST will start to be broadly applied in both provinces.

The tax, which combines the five per cent federal goods and services tax with the provincial sales tax, has met with opposition from those who fear it will drive up the cost services that were previously exempt from provincial sales tax.

It comes as electricity rates in Ontario rise almost 10 per cent effective Saturday and consumers across the country brace for higher mortgage rates and rising municipal taxes.

The rising costs come as Canadians appear to be growing wary of their future purchasing power, according to the Conference Board of Canada's consumer confidence index, which fell a surprising 7.8 points this month to 84.8, the lowest it's been since December.

PM announces new global security think-tank for Toronto

GATINEAU, Que. — Prime Minister Stephen Harper says Ottawa will finance a new centre for examining global security, based at the University of Toronto.

In a speech to business leaders from G20 countries, Harper said the Centre for Global Security Studies should help world powers better understand conflict, terrorism and cyber security.

Harper also urged G20 countries to put aside their differences and press ahead with stronger financial regulations that will cement the global recovery.

He spoke out against attempts by some countries to impose a global tax on banks, saying such a move would penalize Canadian banks in spite of their good performance during the financial crisis.

He said recent numbers show that Canada was the last of the major developed countries to be pulled into recession, and will be the first out -- something he had predicted at the start of the downturn.

Downtown Toronto To Be Transformed Into Locked Down Police State This Summer. Preparations are underway for a massive show of force in Toronto this Summer as the G20 summit comes to town. Unprecedented levels of security are being undertaken, with one of the largest movie studios in North America being transformed into a giant holding facility for unruly protesters.

Police say they are prepared for huge protests during the summit, scheduled to convene over the weekend of June 26/27.

Toronto law enforcement officials have announced they are “tapping” social network websites to monitor the potential activities of protesters as they gear up for the event.

“(Social media) allows people to communicate in a lot more different ways. It’s just another tool,” Const. Wendy Drummond told CP24 news. “The way we police our protests hasn’t changed.”

“The Olympics that you saw recently in Vancouver was actually the largest security event ever to take place here in Canada. The G20/G8 surpasses that completely,” Const. Ed Boltuc, a Toronto Police Services officer and liaison with the RCMP-led Integrated Security Unit, told the Toronto Star recently.

“There’s going to be a massive — absolutely massive — presence of police and security on the ground like you’ve never seen before.” Boltuc added.

The Globe and Mail has reported that up to10,000 uniformed officers, along with a 1,000 private security guards will be deployed, as well as Canadian military forces. The security costs are expected to cost the Canadian government (taxpayers) $179 million.

The plans include two security perimeters, walled in with huge 3 meter high fences, with Toronto police in charge of the outer zone and the RCMP in charge of the inner zone. Anyone entering the inner perimeter, where the Metro Convention Centre is located, will be processed through five levels of airport style security screening.

Various checkpoints throughout Toronto will be outfitted with “Magnetometers,” “walk-through metal detectors,” “X-Ray belt driven scanners” and “hand-held metal detectors.”

Residents and workers in the area will have to register with the authorities to get access to their homes and businesses during the meeting.

The Canadian Forces plans are described as “large-scale operational planning, land and air surveillance, underwater safety and security for the venues and some logistic and ceremonial functions. Support also includes drawing on the CF’s ongoing partnership in the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).”

Protesters will also be subject to designated free speech zones. If they breach these zones they will be forced to move or be arrested.

Police have announced that they will be using a massive movie studio as a temporary jail. The building is roughly five kilometres from the Convention Centre, outside the two security zones. The plan echoes tactics employed in the U.S. at recent DNC and RNC Conventions, where thousands of protesters were indiscriminately rounded up and kept for up to several hours in temporary prisons.

Sunday saw tactical officers take over part of the underground in the financial district of downtown Toronto in an unannounced simulated hostage event. Police worked in tandem with private security guards and we’re seen herding people through the building.

I arrived at Carmen's banquet hall a 3pm. Surprisingly I was the only one there other then police and a few msm people. At 4pm I decided to talk to the camrea guy for CHCH news. Two men in suites immediately asked me to leave the property. They told me to stand at the curb.

I did so. I moved to a bus stop on the sidewalk. I had time to shoot a short video clip and have a drink of vegtable juice. A police officer then came over and asked me for my info. When I respectfully declined, he became very aggitated. He then told me I had to cross the street. I asked in a relaxed tone if this was a public sidewalk? His response was cross the street now!

Being there alone and without the camera running I decided to comply. I crossed the street and sat down on a patch of grass. At the same time I noticed another person, down the street a little more. He was sitting down and painting a sign.

Not even 5 minutes later another police officer and a man in a suite pulled up in a police vehicle. Once again asking who I was and why I was there. I respectfully declined to give my info again.

The police officer began telling me how in a large event, the police have to ID everyone, to ensure public safety. Further in the conversation the man in the suite (who was sitting in the passenger side of the police vehicle) began speaking about detaining people for refusing to provide their info. He also went on to say that they could detain people until they are satisfied that person is not going to commit a crime.

Being there alone I decided to once again submit and give them my ID.

about a half hour later I was speaking with the other protester, who was now waving his sign at cars that drove by. I asked him if the police had requested to see his ID. He told me that they had not.

So after the police told me that they HAD to ID everyone in the area.. They left him alone. I guess to the police, a camera is much more dangerous then a sign.

Without any one else there, I decided to just join in with the protester. We stayed until 8pm, getting many cars to honk in support.

The next day one newspaper went as far as Calling us the two "lowly" protestors..

This event for me was a real wake up call to the police state we live in. Not only were my rights trampled on, but the msm insulted the both of us (big surprise).

More people need to wake up to this nonsense before it is too late!

On Sunday April 18th I received a tip that there would be a terror/civilian evacuation drill in the downtown core which was to include simulated gun fire, actors resembling accident victims and the participation of Police Tactical Officers, the Emergency Task Force, and Toronto Fire and EMS. No one was notified that the drill would be taking place even though it was conducted in the financial district just a few blocks away from the location of the G20 summit coming to Toronto this June 26th/27th. Police with assault rifles could be seen ordering around “civilians” in an underground food court during one of the simulated scenarios. CTV and the Globe and Mail eventually arrived but we here at Press For Truth were the only ones who managed to get footage of the actual drill which was organized by TAPPS (Toronto Association of Police and Private Security) and was dubbed “Active Attackers”.

In a world where false flag attacks are becoming the modus operandi for manipulating the masses into accepting greater forms of tyranny, police and intelligence agencies are looking to merge the public and private sectors of security as a solution to the “threat” of terrorism . We interviewed Deputy Chief Kim Derry from TAPPS who was responsible for the drill and he stated to me over and over again that “times are changing and we need to merge the public and private sectors when dealing with these security issues”. He went on to say “there’s only so many police officers but there’s lots of private security. If private citizens see things they can report it to the private sector and the private sector has a communication network now with us and they can pass it on.”The merging of the public and private sectors of security is a very slippery slope and what the TAPPS organization fails to realise is that when there is an abuse of authority or an illegal action taking by these private forces no one is ever held accountable. Remember that ash cloud? It didn't exist, says new evidence

Britain's airspace was closed under false pretences, with satellite images revealing there was no doomsday volcanic ash cloud over the entire country.

Skies fell quiet for six days, leaving as many as 500,000 Britons stranded overseas and costing airlines hundreds of millions of pounds.

Estimates put the number of Britons still stuck abroad at 35,000.

However, new evidence shows there was no all-encompassing cloud and, where dust was present, it was often so thin that it posed no risk.

The satellite images demonstrate that the skies were largely clear, which will not surprise the millions who enjoyed the fine, hot weather during the flight ban.

Jim McKenna, the Civil Aviation Authority's head of airworthiness, strategy and policy, admitted: 'It's obvious that at the start of this crisis there was a lack of definitive data.

'It's also true that for some of the time, the density of ash above the UK was close to undetectable.'

The satellite images will be used by airlines in their battle to win tens of millions of pounds in compensation from governments for their losses.

The National Air Traffic Control Service decision to ban flights was based on Met Office computer models which painted a picture of a cloud of ash being blown south from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.
These models should have been tested by the Met Office's main research plane, a BAE 146 jet, but it was in a hangar to be repainted and could not be sent up until last Tuesday - the last day of the ban.

Evidence has emerged that the maximum density of the ash was only about one 20th of the limit that scientists, the Government, and aircraft and engine manufacturers have now decided is safe.

British Airways chief Willie Walsh always insisted the total shutdown went too far.

'My personal belief is that we could have safely continued operating for a period,' he said.

Mark Tanzer, chief executive of Britain's ABTA, which represents British travel agents and tour operators, said about 100,000 stranded British travellers should have been returned home by Monday morning.

About 35,000 more will remain marooned until Friday, the group said.

'While most flights are back to normal, and most stranded British passengers will be back by the end of this weekend, there is still quite a high level of disruption in some destinations.

'In some areas of the world, there is a significant lack of air capacity to enable British people to be returned quickly,' Tanzer said.

Many Icelandic airports are closed and though authorities say Eyjafjallajokull is now producing much less ash, they confirmed no signs of the eruption ending.

Deadly airborne fungus in Oregon set to spread

A deadly, airborne new strain of fungus has emerged in Oregon. It has killed nearly one out of four known affected people so far and might also attack animals ranging from dogs to dolphins. And it is likely to spread, researchers now warn.

The new strain known as VGIIc of the fungus Cryptococcus gattii not only targets humans but has also proven capable of infecting dogs, cats, alpacas, sheep and elk. Other strains have even infected porpoises.

Although it can spread to mammals, it does not jump from animal to animal. Instead, people and other animals get it from inhaling spores released by samples of the fungus that infect trees.

"It's in the environment, and we're exposed to the environment," researcher Edmond Byrnes III of Duke University Medical Center told LiveScience. "And the environmental range of this has been expanding."

Potential to spread
While scientists aren't sure how the highly infectious or virulent fungus emerged in Oregon, they caution the new strain now looks set to expand to California and other neighboring areas.

"This novel fungus is worrisome because it appears to be a threat to otherwise healthy people," Byrnes said. "Typically, we more often see this fungal disease associated with transplant recipients and HIV-infected patients, but that is not what we are seeing yet."

Symptoms can appear two or more months after exposure. Most people never develop symptoms, but those infected may have a cough lasting weeks, sharp chest pain, shortness of breath, headache related to meningitis, fever, nighttime sweats and weight loss. In animals the symptoms are a runny nose, breathing problems, nervous system problems and raised bumps under the skin.

Treatment requires months to years of antifungal medications, and even surgery to remove the large masses of the fungus known as cryptococcomas that can develop in the body. So far it cannot be prevented, as there is no vaccine.

Origin unknown
The fungus C. gattii was originally linked with eucalyptus trees in tropical and subtropical climates. It first caused an outbreak in temperate climes on Vancouver Island in 1999 that has now spread into Washington and Oregon, where it infects local trees. This earlier strain, VGIIa/major, has killed nearly 9 percent of 218 patients.

After comparing the genes of the new VGIIc strain from Oregon with others, researchers suggest the new strain most likely arose recently, parallel to the outbreak that began on Vancouver Island. So far it has killed five out of 21 patients analyzed in the United States, a nearly 25 percent mortality rate. Lab studies with immune cells and with live mice revealed it is extremely virulent — that is, it can cause severe disease.

Determining the exact origin of the VGIIc strain has proven difficult. Investigations so far have failed to find it in Oregon soil, water or trees. It may have arrived from abroad or originated locally, researchers said.

Because this fungus had been confined to the tropics until now, researcher Wenjun Li at Duke University speculated that environmental changes might be responsible for the evolution and emergence of these new strains.

"We are trying to put together the evolutionary story of where these types come from by closely studying the genetics of all samples possible," explained researcher Yonathan Lewit at Duke University Medical Center.

It remains uncertain why VGIIc and VGIIa/major are more virulent than other strains. One possibility, given how this fungus can reproduce sexually, new hypervirulent combinations of genes emerged due to sex. The researchers also noted that cell components known as mitochondria in these strains could adopt a distinctive tube shape. Since mitochondria help generate energy in cells, it is possible these strains are more energetic, "but that's just speculation right now," Byrnes said.

When it comes to a public response to outbreaks of these strains, "public health officials in that area have formed a working group with state epidemiologists from all those states in the Pacific Northwest," Byrnes noted. "It's important that public awareness expand on this."

The scientists detailed their findings online April 22 in the journal PLoS Pathogens.

Leaked panel report tells G20 to stick to tight script to maintain credibility

OTTAWA - Stick to a carefully crafted script if you don't want it to die.

That's the advice from an expert Canadian-Korean panel that met last month in Ottawa to advise the Harper government on how to keep the G20 alive beyond its seminal summit in Toronto this summer.

Their 115-page report, obtained by The Canadian Press, says the new international club - tasked with solving the global economic meltdown - will lose public trust and face a dubious future if it makes promises it can't keep.

Far-reaching and difficult negotiations such as global trade liberalization and climate change should be avoided, the rarefied group advises.

Instead, the summit should follow elements of the G20's New Beginning framework from its Pittsburgh summit last fall that focused on promoting sustainable and balanced economic growth.

"It is critically urgent, at this moment in the G20's development, to build on the G20's initial successes and advance its credibility and effectiveness. This can be best achieved by focusing on a small number of pressing priorities," says the 115-page report prepared for the government, and obtained by The Canadian Press.

"The G20, after all, remains something of an experiment in collective leadership and enhanced co-ordination. It will be properly judged not by the promises it makes, but by the progress it delivers."

Carleton University's Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and its counterpart with Seoul National University gathered 25 economists, diplomats, ex-politicos and academics to help the Conservative government craft an attainable agenda for the June 26-27 meeting in Toronto - the first summit of the G20 as a permanent body.

The group was led by veteran mandarin Derek Burney and leading Korean economic heavyweight Yung Chul Park. Burney is a former Canadian ambassador to Washington and served as the head of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's 2006 government transition team

Canada contributed 15 members to the panel - including two ex-finance ministers, Liberal John Manley and Tory Michael Wilson - former Bank of Canada governor Gordon Thiessen, former Privy Council clerk Kevin Lynch and one-time Finance Department official Wendy Dobson, who now heads the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

The group held a day-long seminar in Ottawa last month and addressed the G20 meeting of sherpas, the top organizers from each of the group's 20 countries who were also holding a planning session in Ottawa.

Its key message was that although economic recovery shows positive signs in some countries, it remains "fragile, unevenly shared, and vulnerable to reversal." The report cited imbalances between surplus and deficit countries and the continuing soaring deficits in some.

"Recovery cannot be sustained unless these acute imbalances are corrected and fiscal discipline is exercised," the report states.

"Specifically, surplus countries (notably China, but also Germany and Japan) must be encouraged to accelerate domestic consumption and public spending; deficit countries (notably the United States but also the United Kingdom) must adopt prudent fiscal policies in the medium term, restrain consumer demand, and generate more exports."

This won't be easy, the group says, and resorting to "naming and shaming" won't work either.

That is an apparent reference to the tension between the U.S. and China that many feared would leave the summit in tatters.

Economic tensions between Beijing and Washington have eased recently, but the group urges the G20 to carefully address the imbalances between the Chinese and U.S. economies.

The report urges the G20 to pursue international financial regulation and reform. Its suggestions include pushing for a "sensible level" of capital reserve for banks, perhaps as high as eight per cent. It also calls for reform of the International Monetary Fund, including the need for merit-based appointments to top management posts.

But the group appears less enthusiastic about the G20 getting behind energy security and climate change financing.

The group pans last year's global climate change conference in Copenhagen as a "failure of process" and says the G20 should "integrate green-economy thinking more fully into energy security and economic discussions."

But it says the G20 should assume only a "supplementary" role to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

"Despite the commitments to energy security by the G20 leaders, it seems there has not yet been much progress in furthering the discussions," says the report, which cites as one reason "the lack of consensus within the G20 in addressing a wide range of energy security issues."

Though the group says the Doha Round of global trade negotiations needs to be completed, it doesn't think it would be a good idea for the G20 leaders to hitch their cart to that horse.

"In particular, G20 leaders should not affirm Doha deadlines they know will not be met. Unkept commitments only diminish confidence in open trade and weaken public trust in the G20 itself."

Pentagon backtracks: Iran attack not ‘off the table’

WASHINGTON -- US military action against Iran has not been ruled out, a Pentagon spokesman said Wednesday, after a top official said such an option was off the table in the "near term."

The Defense Department faced questions about US policy on Iran after Michele Flournoy, undersecretary of defense for policy, reportedly said during a visit to Singapore that a strike against Iran would be a "last resort."

"It is not on the table in the near term," Flournoy was quoted as saying.

Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said US strategy over Iran's nuclear program remained unchanged, with Washington focused on diplomatic efforts to persuade Tehran to abandon uranium enrichment.

"I don't think that's anything new," Morrell said of Flournoy's remarks.

"It clearly is not our preference to go to war with Iran, to engage militarily with Iran.

"Nobody wishes to do that, but she also makes it clear it's not off the table."

He said the US preference for diplomacy over military action held true for the current administration as well as former president George W. Bush's White House.

He acknowledged that nearly 200,000 troops deployed in countries bordering Iran -- Afghanistan and Iraq -- could face attacks from Tehran in the event of a possible US strike against Tehran.

"And we have troops in close proximity to Iran that are potentially targets of retaliation should action be taken," he said.

Given Iran's arsenal of short and medium-range missiles, the US military has missile defense systems in the region that "we think will protect our forces against such a threat," he added.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates and top military officer Admiral Mike Mullen have warned of the limits and risks of any military action against Iran, saying it would likely only delay Tehran's program by a few years.

Helicopters land at CN Tower in G20 exercise

Downtown Toronto got a taste of security preparation for the upcoming G20 summit Tuesday morning as two military helicopters completed a test flight around the Metro Toronto Convention Centre before landing in front of the CN Tower.

The CH-146 Griffon helicopters were spotted at about 9 a.m. circling the area above the convention centre, which will play host to the international meeting in June.

Canadian Forces Sgt. Maj. Sylvain Gallant said the flight was to test the capability of the landing area between the CN Tower and the convention centre.

The helicopters were flown in from CFB Borden, looping around the convention centre, the CN Tower, and nearby condos before landing on a stretch of grass on the south side of the CN Tower.

After the landing, witnesses reported seeing men wearing black suits getting out of the helicopters and walking towards the centre.

Gallant said the exercise included practice in transporting VIPs to the site.

A handful of Toronto police officers were also on site during the exercise.

I came across an article in the LA Times today. This article reads like a good old propaganda leaflet. It states that with a reduced amount of air pollution the planet could experience global warming on a much larger scale.

Here is a key section of that article.

"Researchers believe greenhouse gases such as CO2 have committed the Earth to an eventual warming of roughly 4 degrees Fahrenheit, a quarter of which the planet has already experienced. Thanks to cooling by aerosols starting in the 1940s, however, the planet has only felt a portion of that greenhouse warming. In the 1980s, sulfate pollution dropped as Western nations enhanced pollution controls, and as a result, global warming accelerated."

‘No fly’ foul as girl, 6, put on list

Meet America’s tiniest terrorist: 6-year-old Allison Mosher, who’s landed on the nation’s No Fly List alongside mad bombers and other villainous thugs in a mind-boggling snafu that could scuttle her family’s Grand Canyon vacation, her outraged dad says.

“It’s flabbergasting,” Peter Mosher, 41, a software engineer from the Worcester area, told the Herald, recounting his pitched battle yesterday to clear his daughter’s name so they can catch their 6:10 a.m. United Airlines flight this morning at Logan International Airport.

Fearing that red tape would ground their trip, Mosher made a desperate call to U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, whose aide phoned Transportation Security Administration brass at Logan to alert them to the maddening mix-up and ask them to straighten out the mess.

“We gave them a heads-up down at TSA. They will try to do everything they can to accommodate the family,” aide Jack Richard said.

“Sen. Brown’s office came through for us,” Mosher told the Herald late yesterday afternoon - or so he hopes. He won’t know for sure until he gets to Logan today.

United Airlines said it didn’t know Allison was just 6. “The TSA manages the list,” explained spokeswoman Robin Urbanski, who said Allison likely will have to submit to extra screening.

“I am very sorry she is on the list,” Urbanski said. “But when that happens, we are required to conduct a secondary set of security steps.”

Mosher’s ordeal began yesterday when he went online to print out boarding passes for his family’s long-planned trip to Phoenix via San Francisco.

He had no trouble getting passes for himself, his schoolteacher wife, Lynne, and their 9-year-old daughter, Gabrielle.

But when it came to pint-sized Allison, he hit a dead end. So Mosher phoned United, where an agent told him his daughter had “been flagged by TSA security,” probably because she didn’t have a frequent-flyer number.

“I said I would be glad to get her one,” Mosher said, which he did, but to no avail.

The agent looked into it further and said, “She’s still flagged. She’s on a No Fly List.”

“But she’s a first-grader!” Mosher said he pleaded, noting that the airline had her date of birth and middle name. But the agent told the frustrated father there was “nothing (he) can do,” Mosher said.

Mosher turned to the TSA to report the mistake but was informed that Allison still needed to clear airport security to get a boarding pass.

Ann Davis, a TSA spokeswoman, said that because there are no children on the No Fly List, airlines can let kids younger than 12 bypass the tighter security. “If they observe a 6-year-old standing before them, they can forgo additional procedures,” she said.

When he was last contacted, however, an exasperated Mosher said he would have to wake his kids at 2 a.m. to get to Logan hours early to deal with the foul-up.

The image Microsoft doesn't want you to see

Showing Chinese sweatshop workers slumped over their desks with exhaustion, it is an image that Microsoft won't want the world to see.

Employed for gruelling 15-hour shifts, in appalling conditions and 86f heat, many fall asleep on their stations during their meagre ten-minute breaks.

For as little as 34p an hour, the men and women work six or seven days a week, making computer mice and web cams for the American multinational computer company.

This photo and others like it were smuggled out of the KYE Systems factory at Dongguan, China, as part of a three-year investigation by the National Labour Committee, a human rights organisation which campaigns for workers across the globe.

The mostly female workers, aged 18 to 25, work from 7.45am to 10.55pm, sometimes with 1,000 workers crammed into one 105ft by 105ft room.

They are not allowed to talk or listen to music, are forced to eat substandard meals from the factory cafeterias, have no bathroom breaks during their shifts and must clean the toilets as discipline, according to the NLC.

The workers also sleep on site, in factory dormitories, with 14 workers to a room. They must buy their own mattresses and bedding, or else sleep on 28in-wide plywood boards. They 'shower' with a sponge and a bucket.

And many of the workers, because they are young women, are regularly sexually harassed, the NLC claimed.

The organisation said that one worker was even fined for losing his finger while operating a hole punch press.

Microsoft is not the only company to outsource manufacturing to KYE, but it accounts for about 30 per cent of the factory's work, the NLC said. Companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Samsung, Foxconn, Acer, Logitech and Asus also use KYE Systems.

Microsoft, which exports much of the hardware made at the factory to America, Europe and Japan, said that it is taking the claims seriously and has begun an investigation.

One employee told the NLC: 'We are like prisoners. It seems like we live only to work - we do not work to live. We do not live a life, only work.'

The NLC's report included an account from one worker whose job consisted entirely of sticking selfadhesive rubber feet to the bottom of Microsoft computer mice.

But the monotony of sitting or standing for 12 hours, applying foot after foot to mouse after mouse, was not the worst of the worker's testimony.

It was the militaristic management and sleep deprivation that affected the worker most. 'I know I can choose not to work overtime, but if I don't work overtime then I am stuck with only 770 Chinese yuan (£72.77p) per month in basic wages,' the worker said.

'This is not nearly enough to support a family. My parents are farmers without jobs. They also do not have pensions.

'I also need to worry about getting married, which requires a lot of money. Therefore, I still push myself to continue working in spite of my exhaustion.

'When I finish my four hours of overtime, I'm extremely tired. At that time, even if someone offered me an extravagant dinner, I'd probably refuse. I just want to sleep.'

Charles Kernaghan, executive director of the NLC, said: 'It sounded like torture - the frantic pace on the assembly line, same motion over and over for the 12 hours or more of work they did.'

Microsoft said it was committed to the 'fair treatment and safety of workers'. A spokesman added: 'We are aware of the NLC report and we have commenced an investigation.

'We take these claims seriously and we will take appropriate remedial measures in regard to any findings of misconduct.'

When we want a raise in pay to breathe from our over taxed government, we can only go up by 1% or 1.5%, yet government- run Hydro One just put their rates up 11.6%. How much of this is going to wages?

Fuel (car gas) costs go up and down like a toilet seat.

Grocery costs go up every day. The government holds us back, yet

lets big business do as they want with no restrictions.

And now they're sticking us with a landfill tax.

Check your products when you buy, say oil or filters, there's an extra tax on the side. I found this out the other day.

And now we have HST to get screwed again.

How much longer are we going to let this go on?

How long till police officers are given access to these technologies so they can secure the public?

If I were walking down the street and someone stopped me and said, “Hi Kelley, off to work?” When I ask how did they know and respond with “Oh I took a picture of you and it brought me to your facebook page….” That would have me seriously questioning the pros about the direction of technology today and it’s true purpose.

Poland’s Leaders Move to Weaken Currency, Then Die in Plane Crash

There’s no telling if the two events are connected, but their timing is mighty interesting.

The Polish government and the National Bank of Poland, in a “rare moment of unity,” agree to weaken Poland’s currency, the zloty, in an act that would benefit Poland’s exporters at the expense of Poland’s trading partners—that is, the European Union, among others. Then, the next day, Poland’s president and the president of its national bank die in a plane crash.

From the Wall Street Journal in an item dated April 9, 2010:

In one of those rare moments of unity, the National Bank of Poland and the Polish government agreed on the need to weaken the Polish zloty, which over recent weeks has rebounded close to its pre-crisis strength. The currency’s strength is now seen a possible threat to economic recovery. After several verbal interventions over the past few days, the central bank intervened with real money Friday, for the first time in more than a decade.

The bank followed through on its Thursday warnings that it is “technologically and psychologically” prepared to enter the currency market to prevent “excessive strengthening of the zloty.” Government officials also said earlier this week that the “strong zloty” is damaging growth and, after Friday’s intervention, said they fully back the central bank’s move.

In moving to weaken the zloty, Poland’s leadership was placing the interests of the people of Poland ahead of the interests of the European collective known as the European Union.

Then, the next day, the president of Poland dies in a plane crash along with numerous other top leaders, including the president of the National Bank. From the Mail Online:

Polish president Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria have been killed after their plane crashed on approach to Smolensk airport in western Russia.

Russian news agencies reported at least 87 people died in the crash near Smolensk airport in western Russia, citing the Russian Emergencies Ministry. They reported 132 people were aboard the Tupolev Tu-154.

The Army chief of staff, Gen. Franciszek Gagor, National Bank President Slawomir Skrzypek and Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Kremer were on the passenger list.

Poland has been dragging its feet in adopting the euro and joining the European Union, having pushed back its target date for doing so until 2015. Here in the U.S., we might say that Poland is not a “team player.” In the New World Order, bad things tend to happen to leaders who aren’t team players.
